What made you switch from Devialet Expert?

I'd rate German HiFi mag "Stereo" as a really "serious" one. For example, their rating of sound levels is:

NAD M33 (9/2020):             89% https://www.stereo.de/hifi-test/produkt/nad-m33-1876
Devialet 220 pro (11/2018): 95% https://www.stereo.de/hifi-test/produkt/...0-pro-1585
Devialet 210 pro (3/2020):   97% https://www.stereo.de/hifi-test/produkt/...-dual-1807

This will not be the ultimate truth of course, but ... Devialet amps still are big ones in terms of sound quality.

The rates in German magazines mostly follow the price.

But, M33 is not even close. It sounds lean and artificial.

@Ecki - Interesting! I was not familiar with stereo.de. I’ll definitely check it out.

@Delija - Sounds like you’ve got some experience with the the M33. I’d love to hear more. I’ve only read about it and not actually listened. Experience rules…

It sounds great "on paper". It has everything including Dirac, but it's just missing the "magic". It sounds somewhat sterile and lifeless. It lacks "bloom". Dirac doesn't help - it's just the opposite. Every DSP effect including Dirac additionaly sucks the life out of music and make it sound artificial.

If you have a chance for demo - let us know about your opinion / experience.

It was German mag Stereoplay that raised my interest in Devialet. The D110 and D170 where exceptional devices in terms of close to top sound quality and rather affordable price. Devialet is still ranking high: https://www.connect.de/vergleich/bestenl...97346.html

(See "Rang & Namen, stereoplay xx/2022", click "Jetzt herunterladen", i.e. download now as pdf their current top ranking of devices)

Another good starting point for research.

I gave up on Devialet 1000 expert pro a year ago. Main reasons being sonic character changing with every update, lack of upgrade and flexibility of connections, and very poor technical and customer support. That was a very big and poor investment that resulted in no dividends. I have since moved onto dCS Rossini stack and Levinson amplifiers. Leaves these Devialets in the dust.
