I know, I know. Very sad how Devialet is treating its customers. And yes, especially D200 owners like me took a severe punch in the balls with this upgrade.

But:
What will we be missing if we are not going to upgrade?
1. Will we be excluded from future software updates?
2. Will we be excluded from new features?
3. What can we expect from Devialet OS and will it be accessible to "non-pro" owners?

I just want to understand what 3500€ will get me on top of the already great working and sounding d200 (I never used d200 wifi/air/spark ).

Anyone has thoughts or facts regarding this?
Devialet doesn't share its future plans/doesn't have a public road map so it's all speculation.

1. Firmware: no. Devialet OS: yes
2. Yes
3. No one knows. Only uPnP has been officially announced. It will not become available for non Pro models.
I upgraded from DPremier to Expert - based on the lure of SAM and the anxiety of FOMO. SAM did not make any perceivable improvement on my speakers and the FOMO turned out be a none issue

This round, I have taken heart that the current upgrade program is available to DPremier units.

So i am sitting out this and not spending the cash and waiting to see how this all actually unfolds and then will make up my mind in the next round - holding thumbs that it will be available to Expert - which it should be as this round has not made any amendments requiring a new chassis - so if Pro users can be accommodated then Expert should be to.

If possible demo your unit side-by-side and see if it is worth ponying up the cash - but as you mentioned - you have an awesome unit which does not sound worse now that an "upgrade" is available.
thanks to both of you.

So all what remains is FOMO.

What about the upgrade time window? Will the expert to pro upgrade be available in 2017 too?

I know about the Devialet OS hardware, which will be given out for free if I upgrade to pro until end of this year. But I will not give in to Mafia Style coercion - instead of a Baseball Bat they are using a 1800€ price tag for silicone.

2. They might still add new features to the old models. Imo they should.
However they did promise new features to be added in june this year, but that never happened.

As I've to compare mine to a PRO yet I'll stay with my D200 as I assume it not to be as far away SQ wise.

But as you can see in this video  ( http://www.digitalaudioreview.net/2016/0...-end-2016/ ) there is the next ADH-Generation released in the Phantom Gold still on hold for the Expert-Line. So it might be best to invest into the following generation of Experts when this 'All In One' chip (including their own D/A conversion) is build in into the Expert-Line. It's the same as with mobile phones. Jump over two generations and you have the best invest. Though if the money invest doesn't hurt you, go for the latest.

I am too scared to loose my beloved 7.1.3 firmware sound to even think about an upgrade.
And like you said: best wait another generation.
My D200 is only a year and a half old and was a HUGE upgrade compared to my old crappy system.
I should be more than happy for while... Wink
I went for the Pro purely on the basis of what it offered with respect to improved sound quality. If the streamer board or any currently unknown features prove to be useful to me in the future, this will be a bonus. It has to be said that the relative cost of going Pro from a D800 is a lot lower than from a D200, so a very careful audition or home evaluation would be required to establish if sound quality alone is worth the money.

Personally, I would not upgrade based on the promise of as yet unknown future features, I would upgrade based only on what is available and verifiable now. In effect you have the option to upgrade at any time. Why not wait a year? Sit back and enjoy the D200. If at some time in the future there is some new feature on the Pro that you feel you would like, sell or PX your D200 for a new or second-hand Pro, get the best deal you can. This would most likely cost no more than the upgrade now, and at least you would be spending your cash knowing for certain what you are getting.

I tend to agree here.

Devialet themselves just told me that the Devialet OS is currently intended for DLNA and Phantom compatibility. Anything else is currently not known and therefore also not clear in how far it will be applicablt to the "non-pro" devices.

The only disadvantage for upgrading next year is their "free Devialet OS card" saving me 1800€ if ordering the upgrade this year. Given however the currently intended features of the Devialet OS card, I can live with that. + if they offer it for free this year, I do not see y it keeps them from offering it for free next year. I mean silicone gets cheaper and not more expensive with time...
I agree with  Confused.

If you're on the fence try to get a dem now, if your happy where you are stop reading threads like this.  It's the jump in sound quality available now that either is, or isn't worth it, the other stuff isn't worth thinking about, far too many unknowns about features you may or may not get, and may or may not want if you did get.

Currently I intend to be at the back of the queue for the new board when they start dishing them out, but I reserve the right to change my mind when we know something about it.
