Hi,
I have a Phantom Gold. LOVE the sound.

However when I plug it in there is a faint, but noticeable humm/buzz. It starts off a little louder and then reduces, but still detectible. If I put my ear to the top of the Phantom I can hear it loud and clear. I can hear it (with my pretty sensitive ears) when I'm about 2 meters away. I can hear it with just the power plugged in, so it is not coming from the Optical cable, Airport, etc. I tried turning off all other circuits in my house so no other device could be interfering, and also tried another outlet, all without luck. Of course once music is playing it is 100% unnoticeable. But if I'm sitting in my living room with the music OFF and I'm within 2 meters, I can hear it clearly.

After lots of back and forth with Devialet, they sent me a replacement. The new unit has the SAME problem. I took it to a local  high-end HiFi shop and we hooked it up to a $2,000 Furman line conditioner. Same problem. The HiFi person suggested that this may be inherent in the speaker and Devialet was not admitting that the problem was with the design, rather than my unit. But hard to imagine they would go thru the expense of sending me a replacement if that was the case.

The guy at the HiFi store said it sounded to him that is was most likely coming from the Phantoms switched-mode power supply. He said it MIGHT be a grounding issue, and could not guarantee that the ground in the stores own power supply was perfect, but hard to image both their store in town and mine both have serious grounding issues.

Can anyone else hear this on your Phantom (Gold) ?
Greatly appreciate help on this one...
Would hate to have to return it.
2 golds, absolutely no humm/buzz.
Is the buzzing sound changing pitch or is it a continuous sound? The switch mode power supply in both my Gold Phantoms are making a sound almost like a radio picking up a cell phone signal. It's really faint and I can't hear it at 50 cm.

Scubadon - Interesting. So even with your ear near the speaker in a quite room, no humm/buzz?

Ragwo - When I plug the unit into the wall, the sound starts off a little higher, then settles down a bit after a few seconds. Mine is also "faint" but can hear it at 2 meters, enough to be annoying.
I've also the humm/buzz (2 Golds). Hearable in my room. So I unplug the Phantoms when not using. Bit dissapointed about that.
This is quite a useful resource - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_hum - largely as it has sound samples of 50/60Hz hum (depending which country you're in - 50Hz in UK. 60Hz in US) to compare with what you're hearing, if it is a fixed-frequency hum.
I think I'd start by disconnecting any wires apart from the mains and see if it still hums. That might narrow it down though obviously it might not be that easy to fix..
A reasonably common source of hum is a DC offset component to the AC mains ( see http://www.isol-8.co.uk/dc_on_the_mains.html for some info) , which requires a filtering device to fix. It's a very simple circuit and costs pennies in components but naturally in the world of hi-fi solutions for DC offset are usually rather expensive!
Also check out any other devices on the mains and perhaps selectively turn things off to see if they're affecting the Phantoms. Even airborne interference could do it but it would have to be something fairly close by.
The Silver Phantom's I have makes a fixed frequency hum, I'm guessing a 50hz tone. The hum is located on the back of the speakers, same place as the non fixed buzz from the Gold's.
Hi,
I have also the same issue with pair of Phantom Gold. I can hear it anywhere in our bedroom when the power is plugged in and music is not playing.
During the night I have to power off my Phantoms for better sleep Sad. Silvers are without humm/buzz sound.
Devialet support with no response for almost two months.

I am suffering from the same trouble with Phantom Gold. This electric noise might come from the right side of metal plated parts. I claimed this problem to my importer and changed one unit already and it decreased but not clearly resolved.
I think this noise is quite similar to that comes from my old apple wireless router and I also suspect that it is not due to the switching power unit of Phantom but due to the wireless communication parts.

Although this not loud but nerve-racking noise, the sound quality of Phantom is satisfying me.

I hope that Devialet will be able to give me a clear solution soon.
