RE: New product launch? - Confused - 25-Jul-2016 Oddly enough, I just checked my private email about two minutes ago. I see Devialet have now offered me the D1000 upgrade in writing for a bargain £4490. Horary!! I suspect they will be correcting this error 'soon'. In fact, much sooner than most things they fix..... Probably not RE: New product launch? - IanG-UK - 25-Jul-2016 As a manufacturer offering upgrades to existing owners, and having a retail (and generally distribution) network, and dealing at material volumes in at least four currencies, Devialet cannot win here whatever the pricing structure. What they are doing on the 120 to 220P, the 200 to 220P and the 250 to 250P is giving exactly the same full innards replacement for just under £3k. And probably with a new 5 year guarantee. So if owners have looked after their casework and remote casework, and assuming the new P prices are the same as the old, owners are getting a brand new unit which would normally cost £5.5k and £10k. Similarly the 400 to 440P costs £4.5k whereas a new unit costs (at least) £10k. And the 800 to 1000P costs £5k (although £4.5k on the email which I suspect is wrong) whereas a new unit costs (at least) £18k and probably £23k. So, overall, a new unit for 20%/27% to 55% of normal retail - depending on casework type and stereo or dual mono. As an OdA owner, I traded in so I have effectively paid a premium of about 65% (£11k - £12k) to go from 800 to OdA and now to 1000P. That is more than anything, £ wise and percentage wise, being asked for now. My call, so I cannot complain too much. Not that there is an upgrade, but that there is no price differentiation between D120 and D200 upgrades to D220 Pro. For this money I could also upgrade to a D400. Yeah, I agree - an unintelligent marketing strategy and I've already made my thoughts on this clear to Devialet. Not an attractive upgrade for 200 owners. But I don't care that much as my 200 sounds great anyway RE: New product launch? - PhilP - 25-Jul-2016 (25-Jul-2016, 21:42)IanG-UK Wrote: What they are doing on the 120 to 220P, the 200 to 220P and the 250 to 250P is giving exactly the same full innards replacement for just under £3k. If I was a 250 owner I would be thinking that I had paid a hell of a lot of money for a nice case RE: New product launch? - Wdw - 25-Jul-2016 (25-Jul-2016, 20:48)Confused Wrote:...the dealer network, their existing customers, the brand value and resale.(25-Jul-2016, 19:51)Wdw Wrote: "Given a typical dealer margin of around 45-50% on new units, it seems that Devialet will make about as much money on each upgrade as they would on a new sale. Not a bad business model, if they can get away with it. " RE: New product launch? - Hifi_swlon - 25-Jul-2016 Can't even be bothered to comment, other than to say I can't see much thought having been put into the pricing and I won't be upgrading. I probably wouldn't have anyway, but this announcement doesn't make me think there's going to be any sense injected into the brand anytime soon. Still, if the old 200's knocking around in years to come (no point selling now thanks to Devialet de-valuing it and making the 120 and D-prems the hot upgrade tickets) and Devialet are still going, it seems like I'll be able to jump back in at the top level for a few grand or so. RE: New product launch? - markush - 25-Jul-2016 Anyone know anything about the promised 'advantageous conditions' for those of us on the first 200 mailing list? You got a personalised email about it. I think that's the gist of it. |
