RE: What album are you listening tonight? - f1eng - 16-Jan-2016 It was a disc of Schubert's 9th Symphony that first really hooked me on classical music. I was in my second year at Uni and I must have picked the LP up by accident when gathering my records together to go back because it was one of my Mum's record club discs. Anyway that was the thin end of the wedge and by my third year I was voraciously learning as much new (to me obviously ) classical music as I could and going to loads of concerts. Anyway I recently got an Amazon mailshot about a new DG Schubert edition box set. It had loads of interesting recordings included so I ordered it. It arrived this morning and the first disc I am listening to has 3 different historic versions of the 8th symphony, Kleiber/Wiener Philharmoniker, Furtwangler/Berliner Philharmoniker and Stokowski/ LPO I am listening to this disc first. I am loving it too. RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Cylob - 16-Jan-2016 This one is beautiful! And it's nominated for an oscar... The Sakamoto / Noto combo is always magical. Highly recommended! RE: What album are you listening tonight? - hesavary - 19-Jan-2016 First Aid Kit, Stay Gold, streaming on Qobuz. Marvelous album, great voice, great recording ! RE: What album are you listening tonight? - blair.athol - 19-Jan-2016 (16-Jan-2016, 17:20)Cylob Wrote: Thank you Cylob, this is quite dark and minimalistic with very deep bass... you can feel the loneliness and the cold winter scenery without having seen the movie. RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Cylob - 19-Jan-2016 Glad to hear that, blair.athol! Thanks for letting me know. RE: What album are you listening tonight? - thumb5 - 19-Jan-2016 Not an album as such...just been to hear Mitsuko Uchida play: Berg: Piano Sonato Schubert: Four Impromptus Mozart: Rondo in A minor Schumann: Piano Sonata No.1 Absolutely sublime! I didn't know any of these pieces - shame on me - but enjoyed them all, especially the Berg. RE: What album are you listening tonight? - f1eng - 20-Jan-2016 Micheline van Hauten, La Musique - chansons Jacques Brel. CD RE: What album are you listening tonight? - blair.athol - 20-Jan-2016 tonight one of my all time favorits, Laurie Anderson, Life on a String, just listen to Slip Away... its a wonderful song and sound for a long winter night...
