Automotive Audiophile! - amabrok - 18-Jun-2015 I did not know how to classify this post, but since it is all about music, I thought here would be appropriate. I always appreciate excellent sound on the road, especially during long drives. But I have never considered auto sound systems to be of true audiophile grade. Though car makers succeeded to attract big names Naim for Bentley, Burmeister for Mercedes, Meridian for Range Rover, to name but a few, the focus was mainly on the speakers and how they interact with the difficult acoustics of the car interior and often time little attention was given to the main head unit in terms of DSP and amplification. This is why the experience, almost always, falls short of a true audiophile grade experience that one might get from a proper home setup. Of course there are exceptions. And speaking of exceptions, my views changed completely when a couple of days ago I took a 2015 Audi RS7 fitted with a B&O sound system for a test drive. Forget about how awesome this car drives, it is not what this post is about, but the sound was absolutely mind blowing!!! I had with me my A&K 120II loaded with excellent hi-res material and I connect it to the aux-in of the RS7 and oh boy!!! Never before have I had such an experience on the road. Absolutely stunning to say the least. Very musical, very tonally balanced. Crisp highs and warm lows and the system is so in control and blends perfectly well with cabin acoustics! This experience made me wonder, what do you guys think of Auto Audiophile? Any experience to share? Also it makes me wonder, what if Devialet partners with a car maker and try to strengthen the week link of the central processing units that plagues most car systems by providing its amazing ADH technology? When was the last time you experienced something for the first time? I can't promise you a breathtaking outcome from that RE: Automotive Audiophile! - f1eng - 19-Jun-2015 I almost never listen to music in my car. BBC radio 4 sometimes but normally silence. Music is for passengers only, in my car. If I was enjoying the music I would be too distracted to drive safely. If I was concentrating on driving properly I wouldn't notice the music. One of my cars makes too much noise anyway... RE: Automotive Audiophile! - Confused - 19-Jun-2015 (19-Jun-2015, 17:30)f1eng Wrote: I almost never listen to music in my car. It sounds really nice, 3-way speakers up front and no sub. Mercedes has had some issues with software in my car and updated the DSP a couple of times and it totally changed the sound, at the moment its too bright. I think the burmester in the S-class sounds superb tho but that price is 1/3 of my whole c-class. RE: Automotive Audiophile! - brit - 18-Sep-2015 My Dansette in the Austin A30 is fantastic . David |
