Hey guys
do you guys think that you D200/D400 use a lot of power/electricity compared to old/other products.. ?
i know that when you spend money on these thing, the electrical bill is you least worry.
but if you are using it also when it is hooked up to you tv and just watching ordinaly television.

I don't have a measurement with current firmware, but with older firmware (7.x?) I measured a Devialet 200 at 5W when off, 8.5W in standby, and 26-29W driving B&W N802 or 36W driving KEF LS50.
In comparison my Pioneer SC-75 AV Receiver uses 0W in standby but 78W idle or driving either pair of speakers.
So the Devialet 200 uses more energy in standby but less when active than a modern AVR with similar power output. Oh, the Devialet also sounds much better too. So if you use a power strip or other device to cut the power to the Devialet when you're not using it you save energy and get better sound from the Devialet.

Some pure class A amplifiers can use huge amounts of power. A 200wpc class A could draw over a kilowatt. It could get as hot a a one kilowatt heater too, which might be nice in cold climates but anywhere warm you would need to add in the cost of air conditioning too. So as a Devialet is one of the very few amplifiers to sound as good as pure class A, it could be considered an environmental triumph!

To put that into money terms;
1 full year off but plugged in will cost you about $13.-
1 full year on stand by $22.-
1 full year on somewhere between $75.- and $100.-
Or if you're thinking in environmental terms the global warming effect of running the Devialet will be significantly less than the impact on your room temperature

that is great.. i came from the biggest yamaha AVR and converted into stereo now. So thats good info.
question though. will a Devialet amp not take damage of unpowering it all the time when not using?

TDA have the pleasure of living in Denmark, everything is taxed, a kWh is around 40us cent, hence it gives meaning to ask.
Before my 200 I was using a Plinius SA-103 and my electrical bill have been reduced.

Hi Morton,
US$0.40 is a lot for power. It's about A$0.26 here but I used $0.30 in my calculation. I've been interested in Plinius in the past. How does it compare with the D200?

Pim - I actually auditioned a Plinius SA-Reference Power Amplifier at the same time that I was thinking of buying a D240. It was very good, no doubt, but at the time I thought that the Devialet had better control of the bass and was ultimately more detailed. The Dev was cheaper too!
