Yes optical from Aries to Dialog RE: Roon - davidadamson - 15-Feb-2016 (15-Feb-2016, 11:14)McChicken Wrote:(15-Feb-2016, 08:02)mvrlondon Wrote: My Roon Server connects to a Raspberry Pi 2 with a Hifiberry Digi+ board (has an optical output) connected to the optical input on the Dialog. It will act as a Roon server similar to Aries using optical out to Dialog. Roon will see it and you will be able to stream using roon. Its probably the cheapest way to do it. If you're not too worried about high samples rates, Roon plan to implement ChromecastAudio as an endpoint too. I'm using one for radio (optical into a D200) and its a neat little device. Not as powerful/flexible as a Raspberry Pi or Cubox (Sonic Orbiter) type solution, but very simple/tidy and cheap! Of course, Roons own software for using a Raspberry Pi will also be out around the same time so a few options are on the horizon and will be cheaper than the Sonore product if you don't mind a bit of DIY - and the DIY will be fairly minimal as Roon plan to release downloadable images for the platforms so will be as simple as putting on an SD card and plugging in. (Hopefully) Obviously the Sonore will work out of the box, will have been tested under many conditions, and will come with support - if these things are important to you - I know not everyone likes tinkering…. The RPi2/Digi+ combon is US$70 (about £50 if bought in the EU) vs. US$300 for the sonic orbiter (+ for the EU shipping from the US + duty/VAT) RE: Roon - McChicken - 15-Feb-2016
The RPi2/Digi+ combon is US$70 (about £50 if bought in the EU) vs. US$300 for the sonic orbiter (+ for the EU shipping from the US + duty/VAT)
Thanks guys for all your info RE: Roon - kameraguy - 16-Feb-2016 The fact that Roon supports horizontal orientation on an iOS device is already a WIN over Spark imho RE: Roon - McChicken - 16-Feb-2016 I will for sure keep an eye out here and the Roon forum to when they will release the Chromecast Audio as an end-point I listen to 98% streamed content and not much at all from my NAS as I cannot keep up and D/L content as I listen to way to much new music releases ( 2015 = 7289 songs, 2951 Artists, 66.000 minutes) RE: Roon - Dimsyboy - 18-Feb-2016 Dialog act as the DAC here? I thought you need a dedicated DAC for this. Roon - davidadamson - 18-Feb-2016 The dacs are in the Phantoms Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Roon - Dimsyboy - 18-Feb-2016 Can you play DSD in this setup? |
