http://www.audiostream.com/content/qa-john-swenson-part-3-how-bit-perfect-software-can-affect-sound

ThierryNK has just shared these articles on http://www.forum-audiophile.fr and I thought it would be useful to share on here.

The third article talks about how bit perfect software can affect sound, quite interesting in the context of some of the discussions taking place around AIR.

Thanks, Guillaume.

It's also worth reading the comments. There's a lot of discussion about buffering in the DAC, which would tend to override any issues caused upstream by rendering software.

Anyway, interesting stuff, even if not in any way conclusive.

Guillaume - thanks for posting those. I found the comments on the third article particularly interesting.

Indeed you are quite right, apologies and no excuses here! Blush

No problem of course! Wink

Interesting discussion about the effect ethernet cables can have and why from this post forward: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f22-networking-networked-audio-and-streaming/ethernet-cables-audiostream-test-17713/index7.html#post347743

It confirms my thoughts about ethernet not being a real time "audio prototocol" and thus that jitter is 'handled with' during buffering/reclocking but that the cable itself transmits noise into the DAC and it's ground planes that can lead to jitter upstream in the D/A process and noise in it's analog circuits.

RE: Interesting articles - Jwg1749 - 22-Sep-2014

Yes, I think that sums it up.

RE: Interesting articles - PhilP - 22-Sep-2014

More detail about how to design products to mitigate these issues in a paper by Texas Instruments. Note the date of the original paper - 2008. Clearly some people have known about the real factors influencing ethernet cable performance for years...
