RE: New product launch? - NickB - 25-Jul-2016 (25-Jul-2016, 01:46)Celts88 Wrote:(24-Jul-2016, 22:10)NickB Wrote: I think if anyone had already paid to upgrade their D Premier to D800 and then had to pay for the upgrade to 1000Pro they might think that it was absolutely correct for you to be charged for both upgrades to do the same. No sour grapes here, I never had D Premiers, and as I remember you telling everyone how little you paid for your D Premiers when you bought them I think you are probably doing OK. Presumably, the upgrade D800>D1000 depends on some internal hardware that does not exist in the original D-Premier. Therefore, it does not seem unreasonable to me that someone going from DPrem>D1000 would need to pay for both stages. Whether the price is reasonable is another matter, but the principle seems fair enough to me. I suspect we might see a similar scenario when the new streamer board is released next year, for people who haven't upgraded to Pro specifications. If I got the D-Premiers for nothing should I pay a different price than if I had paid full price from the start. I'm not asking to get anything on the cheap, but there will be other people who paid full price for original D-Premiers who may not see things the way you do. My sour grapes comment was in relation to not understanding why it's such a big deal for yourself. People in the UK/Europe get gear cheaper all the time than we do over here in Oz, but I'm not on here having a go about that. I even mentioned on previous posts that I expect to pay an additional premium for going D-Premier to 1000Pro, but wasn't expecting to have to pay the price for both upgrades when I was only getting the one upgrade. Even my dealer said he thought the upgrade prices for D-Premier to 1000Pro was over the top, but what would he know. It seems as if it may be time for me to step out of Devialetchat for now, as if this is what it's like for myself genuinely saying I thought paying for a double upgrade cost seemed excessive (which is what my dealer also said) then it seems sour grapes to me. I didn't go trawling through your posts to find old posts to see if you got any good deals; glad you have the time to do that and it makes you feel better now. Otherwise you'd end up getting a brand new 1000 Pro for under £10k, less the chassis obviously but yours is rather nice I'm amazed at the prices you were quoted for your brand new 250 and 800, I paid a LOT more for my 800 (500 back in 2014). On the pricing front the UK is pretty bad though. We pay almost double the US MSRP for brands such as Magico, Wilson, Transparent etc. Even Devialet is cheaper on the continent. So if I'd paid full price for the D-Premiers and then had to pay the double upgrade price would it still be right, or is it only right because I got my D-Premiers cheaply. If the person who had the D-Premiers originally had kept them and did the 1000Pro upgrade he could have ultimately paid a total of £30k, so would that be ok from a total ownership cost point of view FYI the previous prices quoted for 250 & 800 were to be a private sale hence the prices being so good You no doubt pay more that the US, but that's the same for virtually everybody Hope your enjoying the O'dA with the extra power. Not sure if the extra 100W would make that much of a difference to overall SQ, but hopefully other changes within the 10.0.2 firmware upgrade have helped. RE: New product launch? - NickB - 25-Jul-2016 Doesn't bother me but there are probably a few who have paid exactly that amount to go buy D Premiers then upgrade to 500 then 800 then will have to pay to upgrade 1000. They might not think that your route was "fair" to them. Not sure what you expected your dealer to say to you, would you have been happy if he had said. "No mate you got a bargain its a fair price for the upgrade" RE: New product launch? - Confused - 25-Jul-2016 Have prices for the upgrades actually been released yet? As far as I know, UK dealers have not had prices yet, so I'm a little surprised the Australian dealers have? Maybe the facts will look a bit different when 'official' prices are announced. (soon?) Anyway, reading all this I can fully understand Celts88's frustrations, and charging the full upgrade price for D-prem to D-800, then adding the 1000 Pro upgrade on to does seam excessive to me, maybe something about halfway would be far more reasonable? However, when I first heard about the upgrade and realised that Devialet were retaining what was the original D-Premier case for the 1000 Pro, this got me thinking. I am more than happy with my D800, and indeed my companion was only purchased in 2014, so still has over three years guarantee left on it, it seams a bit crazy to throw away the innards of what is still a very new amplifier. So one idea I had was to skip this upgrade and then go for whatever new is announced in 2020, or whatever. Why not? OK, maybe the 2021 Devialet 1750 Super Pro might be a radical new design with a new case, but even if the plan does not work, what have I lost? I still have the D800 and the cash I would have spent on the upgrade. Currently I am still a bit grumpy about Devialet, so I felt more than happy to hang onto my cash and see how things develop in Quentin Sannie's new era of good communication and transparency. BUT..... when it started to become apparent that if you do try to 'skip' an upgrade, Devialet will still charge you for the bit you skipped, I changed my mind, and started to think OK, why not go for it if it sounds good, and if I skip this upgrade I'll only end up paying for it later? So I think Devialet's policy is for people like me, and it works, money I would have kept for myself is now far more likely to make it's way to Devialet. Is this fair on D-Premier owners? No, I don't think it is. This does remind my of an early childhood memory, when my slightly older brother got lots of stuff and I didn't. (long story) There were good reasons for this, but I thought it was really unfair. I challenged my father 'it's not fair dad!!', his only reply was 'life is not fair, the sooner you realise that the happier you will be', that was all he said, very blunt. Looking back this was very good advice, I've never forgotten those words. They might not think that your route was "fair" to them. Nick You seem to have went to a lot of trouble going through my old posts for someone who isn't bothered The thing I don't get is what difference does it make what anyone paid previously, I would have thought the upgrade costs would be based on the upgrade costing for Devialet, plus whatever profit they want to put on top. If that means extra for the D-Premiers over others then so be it. Actually my local dealer has no idea how much I paid for my D-Premiers (they were a private buy). His comments were made to me without any prompting and just his own thoughts from what he originally quoted me for the D-Premier > D800 upgrade option (he also didn't see why had to pay full cost of D-P's to D800 + D800 to 1000Pro cost). We're just going round in circles here and don't want to bog down the thread. The upgrades will be what they be, and irrespective of what we say/feel it will cost what Devialet says it's going to cost. I'll leave you guys to carry on debating the upgrades, but at current projected cost it won't be for me (will find out in a few days actual costing).
