RE: AIR 3 Beta for Mac - CptHaddock - 23-Jul-2016

"Finally" I thought to myself, Streaming built in! Maybe I can use Air 3 and get the same results as others with beta 3.

Well there's good news and bad news.

First, understand, I've never been able to successfully stream to my 120. Ever. WiFi, Ethernet - never had a noise free connection. My 120 sits about 20' from my router as well. I tinkered around with a variety of suggestions floating around. No change. I've been using the spdif output from an Aries mini with a Teddy Pardo PSU, which has worked flawlessly. For the cost of that solution, I'm prepared to be a bit forgiving of the only control app running on an iPhone while the promised HTML client is created.

The good news: I was able to stream using WiFi and Ethernet entirely noise free.

The bad news: ... for about two minutes. Ethernet / WiFi - no change. It's like I have a time limited demo version.

Air locks up and the spinning beach-ball of doom proceeds to mock indefinitely until I reboot my Mac. TIDAL playing through Chrome will happily continue uninterrupted via a different audio output.

In the brief time I had for comparison, for sound quality I have no plans to part with the Aries mini which sounds significantly better 2D versus 3D plus gobs of detail. And works. The Auralic Altair is looking increasingly interesting as a partial replacement for my 120.

Official AIR3RC is out now:

Curious about it. And changes to the beta version so far. If there are any at all.

I still don't see the devialet sign in my taskbar. It's just an empty space and when i click on it i can activate air.
Any other users with this "problem"? Any idea how to fix this?

Are you running in dark menu or hiding the menu?  If so try turning them off, as it might be a bug with either of those 2 modes.

Tried to play with those setting but this didn't make a difference.

You might have to turn those setting off if you were using them and log out and back into your machine.  Or uninstall and reinstall after turning those setting off.

Yes that worked! Thanks.

RE: AIR 3 Beta for Mac - AllenB - 28-Jul-2016

So now I have a bit of a quandary

I thought I would give the RC Beta 3 on Mac a go, after all, when I bought my Dev 200 I had wanted to use AiR and keep it all simple. As we know, thus far AiR has been a nightmare for most, but hey ho, I gave it a go.

Firstly, with a straight Ethernet connection, it worked through a few tracks and I thought this pretty good, but not up to the SQ of my recent microRendu setup. What the heck I thought, I will switch the network feed that my MR was receiving, which is a pair of TP Link 110 optic fibre isolators, with the unit nearest the MR receiving power from one of the rails of my JS-2. Wow, this elevated the SQ in AiR3 to a level I had not heard before from AiR.

I thought I would stress this a little, so my iMac, which stores my music, runs Roon server and HQP, with a selection of various format tracks all up sampled by HQP to 192kHz. Set HQP to output to Devialet AIR, and I ran for a good hour or so without a hitch. Wonderful sound, no glitches, nothing.

I will persist with this for a few more sessions after my work day, but already the thoughts in my head, have Devialet finally cracked this!?!

RE: AIR 3 Beta for Mac - AllenB - 28-Jul-2016

Another possible plus to AiR3 working (at least in my set-up) is that HQP seems to behave much better with Deviate AIR piggy-backing of the iMac core audio. Hopefully, none of the phaffing around with HQP / NAA being on/off when the Dev 200's USB connection is on/off via a streaming player using NAA (microRendu /MacMini, RPi, etc).

I am actually looking forward to my evening listening session later on.
