Hi Nightmare I think there is a job waiting for you as Director of Marketing in Paris. You will get a huge salary, live in a Dreamworld, and can eat as much foie gras as you want. RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - Confused - 15-Jul-2016 Picking up on the above does actually remind me of something that was discussed at the launch event. I was talking to Devialet's Mathieu Pernot about the new streamer board, and I asked if the long term plan was to use this new board as part of a medium term plan to make AIR obsolescent. The answer was a very clear no, going forward the Expert range will continue to feature AIR and AIR will be supported. OK, regulars on here will know the history and frustrations with AIR, but how about a moment of optimism. The new Windows AIR should be arriving in beta form in a couple of weeks. Time will tell if it is a step forward. However, looking at other posts, there has been feedback that Devialet are recruiting additional resources to work on AIR, and I presume other software issues. OK, the obvious response to this is that they should have done this years ago, it would be difficult to argue against this point. But hey, we can't change the past, we are where we are, and if issues like this do get the correct recourses and planning going forward, maybe better things are coming? (coming soon) How optimistic am I feeling today! RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - Pim - 15-Jul-2016 I'm sure it will come good some day. Devialet has proper money behind them and if they are outsourcing some of the work there's a good possibility they can get it VERY right. There's not much danger of them not delivering on the former. Only time will tell for the latter. It's not that hard. If they fail second time round there will be no doubt about their abilities in that dept. RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - Hifi_swlon - 15-Jul-2016 (15-Jul-2016, 07:26)Confused Wrote: .. And think of all the marketing material that would need re-printing. Plus they probably did grab one of the best acronyms for it. (well, maybe not for the wired version) I think most people having suffered would be very happy if it worked reliably for everyone, even if it took longer than the development of three incarnations of the a Expert line itself. Even just for moving on physiologically. But most would probably be ecstatic if the streamer board supported RoonReady or a host of other alternate technologies so they'd never have to use AIR again. Life's too short - why go back to something you know might cause trouble when you've already found a rock-solid solution. Lots of people are moving to Linux servers too, so in a sense a Win/OSX transport is becoming a bit 'old fashioned' in audiophile circles anyway. In other news today, Sony have reiterated their continued support & development of a world-class video recording technology called Betamax... http://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/001/446/failboatcover.jpg RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - Confused - 15-Jul-2016 My optimism has just taken a hit! (it did last nearly 40 minutes though) It has just occurred to me that on Wednesday Devialet effectively said, 'pay £5k, for this you get an upgrade and the lovely new streamer board, by the way, you can't have the lovely new streamer board unless you upgrade, the upgrade program will last from September to December 2016, we will not give you details of the streamer board and there will be no opportunity for you to evaluate the sound quality of the streamer board until 2017.' Ummmmm...... I'm not sure the bosses at Devialet where born when Betamax flopped RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - Confused - 15-Jul-2016 'Our engineers are working very hard on the ship, rest assured it will be floating upright soon' RE: Devialet at Oxford Audio 13th July - marcor - 15-Jul-2016 So I have a D250 and they will ask me probably (according to the reports) 3,990 £ to give me back a 250Pro with a "future" streaming board when ready. What roon compatible streamer can I buy for 3,990£ available now? |
