Can you elaborate a bit?  Harsh?  Thin?  Anything?  thanks.

The 220 Pro has been playing now for 6 days non stop and the sound has significantly improved. In the beginning it was stressful for the ears at higher volumes. I'd say the sound was sharp due to sharp-/harshness and definitely worst than the D120 I had. That brings me to the point that I can not really describe in what manner the D220 pro is worth the money to upgrade from a D200. I had the D200 on loan from my dealer for a week just to test if there were audible differences between the 120 and the 200 and that didn't take a lot of time to figure out.

When we (my wife and I) auditioned the D120 some years ago at the dealer we finished with a brief demo of the D200 which budget wise at the time was not an option. My wife though immediately indicated that the sound was too detailed and wasn't comfortable to listen to for her. When we had the D200 on loan she sticked to that conclusion. Discussing this with the dealer he said he could relate to this as the D200 was more 'analytical' sounding than the D120. I deliberately say more because otherwise you could read is a analytical by character. I just wanted to illustrate the differences.

This morning I let my wife listen again to the D220 and she thinks the analytical part has gone. For me, the sound is in perfect balance. The bass control of the D220 is much better. e.g. on 9 crimes from Damien Rice (not the best recording quality I know) at the point where Damien takes over from Lisa there was as it appeared now a boomingness caused by the lacking control of the D120. With both the D200 and D220 this is totally gone and I would state that there has been substancial improvement made here D200 vs D220.

Pianos, instruments and voices are beautifully open and airy as is the rest of the sound. Also here an improvement D200 vs D220. What is most noticeable though (kind of in your face noticeable) is the expanded soundstage over the previous models. It is just huge. In total it just much more musical and a real joy to listen to.

Great post and thanks for the feedback.
You had some reservations initially, do you feel the 220 is now at the level you were expecting? Keep us posted over the coming weeks...

RE: Upgrade program kick-off - cfwotzka - 16-Oct-2016

perhaps I'm to stupid but will two D250 upgraded to D250Pro become the 1000Pro ?

I just send one of my D250 for upgrade and ask myself what to do with the other one.

RE: Upgrade program kick-off - Hifi_swlon - 16-Oct-2016

From what I've read I think the 1000 pro is technically a master and companion 250pro. Although 2 x 250 pro master can become the same thing. Your signature says 800, which would be master and companion? Either way if you upgrade both you'll have a 1000 pro.

Excellent post. I think that this is what people who are contemplating the upgrade wanted to hear.

thxs for clarification.
in fact I have the 800 made from two D250 masters but only recently had the opportunity to buy one add. D250 and one DP.
my idea is to keep the Le800 for now and test against my hopefully soon upgraded D250Pro. what I've learned now is that I could have a 1000Pro for 2 times 3490Euro upgrade costs that are equal for upgrading from D250 and DP.

many thanks again

RE: Upgrade program kick-off - iamwappie - 16-Oct-2016

I think I can also state that AIR stability has also improved considerably and the white noise while playing hasn't occured anymore. I had a quiet good working AIR with my D120 and only had occasional white noise issues while listening. It was preceded by a drop out (and you had to quickly turn the volume down as you knew the white noise was going to com. I think this happened maybe once every 4 hours or so.

With the D220 I have not yet got such issues. That is while playing. While switching source back from another one to the AIR interface (with ROON running) sometimes the white noise comes in. Restarting ROON solves the issue.

Wow, so you could in fact have 2 x 1000pro if you upgraded them all...

I just send one of my D250 for upgrade and ask myself what to do with the other one.

I wanted clarification from Devialet before upgrading my two D250's as like yourself I too have them running in configuration as a D800.

The reply from Devialet was that again both 250 pro's can be configured as master and companion to allow us to run a 1000 Pro.

I've since had one 250 Pro returned with the other D250 currently at the factory being upgraded. I'll have to admit that before the upgrade I found myself listening more to my Phantoms than the D800.

Now the reverse is true, since the 250 Pro's return the Phantoms are silent. The 250 Pro is amazing, its never been off, currently listening to Beth Hart's new release 'Fire On The Floor' 24/44.

Blorbed - this actually puts you in the very interesting position of being able to judge how a 250 Pro compares to the old D800.  I have my suspicions that the 250 Pro would be better, in terms of detail and natural presentation.  This is only based on hearing the 1000 Pro, you have the 250 Pro and are obviously familiar with the old D800.  What do you think?
