Phantom Gold Review What Hifi - Confused - 14-Dec-2016

I'm guessing this is a review that will annoy Phantom fans.  (It annoys me a bit)  Why?  A single Phantom review from a 'respectable' hifi rag.

"Needs greater separation and space to its delivery" They had one? Do they understand how stereo works?

+1
It's difficult to both promote single Phantom (more affordable) and yet explain that two is better than one that is stereo better than mono, w/o clearly stating that each unit plays mono.

That said, I'm still amazed at how an acceptable mono conversion is achieved without significant cancellation of some frequencies, so much so one Phantom can be confused with a stereo system with just a lower "separation and space". I guess the sound quality and maybe the nearly spherical radiation are part of this magic.

Season's greeting everyone, and enjoy your system not thru reviews, but with your own ears…

Separation and space were the first thing that stunned me when I first got my hands on a White Phantom! Never heard mono sounding so much like stereo before. Couldn't understand how it sounded like there was image depth stretching back behind the unit deep into the corner space behind it.
