Let's do some math: 1) sonicTransporter i5 with internal 2Tb SSD: 1455 dollars 2) LPSU for sT: 500 dollars? 3) SOtM sMS-200Ultra: 1400 dollars 4) SOtM sPS-500 with standard copper wire: 500 dollars Total 3855 dollars which is roughly at the same level with Innuos Zenith MkII. I'm not sure which of these would sound better but at least Innuos looks nicer and would be easier to use (built-in CD-ripping etc). One person's best bang for buck can easily be another persons 'too expensive' / 'not worth it' / 'don't like it'. When I think back to everything I tried with the Devialet Expert, I always thought that easily the best 'bang for buck', or sound quality per $ (£) if you like, came from the Mutec MC3+USB. Of course the MC3+USB needs something to feed it, so that adds another $1000 or so to petrik's calculations above. You could use an Innuos to feed a Mutec MC3+USB of course....... RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - audio_engr - 07-Nov-2017 " /> Here's some math ... very, very close I must say !! RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - Confused - 07-Nov-2017 Here's some maths for the budget conscious SQ freak.... sT $1455 Don't bother with a LPSU for the sT, it really will not make much difference. Drop the SOtM, use an ultraRendu = $875 LPS-1 for ultraRendu = $395 Mutec MC3+USB = $1160 Total = $3885, a little cheaper than the Zenith Now for some speculation..... I reckon that the above would offer significantly better sound quality into a Devialet Expert versus the Zenith. I have not listened to the Zenith, so this IS speculation, but read back though the thread, it does not look like the Innous has done that much to optimise the USB output, add this to reports that even top notch USB sources such as the Aurender N10 sound better via AES/EBU, I am sure you get the idea. Of course, if someone ever gets to actually try the Innous in a A/B test with something equivalent, maybe the results will prove different. RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - audio_engr - 07-Nov-2017 is Mutec MC-3+ usb the only worthwhile device to do a USB > AES/EBU for the devialets ? RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - petrik - 07-Nov-2017 I wish someone could do A/B testing with Innuos, Roon/AIR, SOtM or Sonore w/wo Mutec Innuos has 30-day "love it or return it" guarantee, so there shouldn't be any risk in this. I would love to do this comparison but I don't have any of those fancy devices like SOtM, Sonore or Mutec. http://www.innuos.com/en/go/faqs-returns RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - thumb5 - 07-Nov-2017 (07-Nov-2017, 14:12)audio_engr Wrote: is Mutec MC-3+ usb the only worthwhile device to do a USB > AES/EBU for the devialets ? There are certainly other options, some of which have been discussed on the forum already. Last time I looked these included, for example: * Matrix Audio X-SPDIF 2 (http://store.matrix-digi.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=65) * M2Tech hiFace Evo Two (http://lnx.m2tech.biz/products/evo-two/hiface-evo-two/) * Gustard U12 Depends what you mean by "worthwhile"... Plus the Singxer SU-1...... https://www.shenzhenaudio.com/singxer-su-1-usb-digital-interface-with-xmos-xu208-cpld-dsd256-dop.html And the soon to be released Sonore ultraDigital (USB to S/PDIF RCA) https://www.computeraudiophile.com/forums/topic/37438-sonore-ultradigtial/?tab=comments#comment-736441 Sometimes you can have too many choices RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - Music or sound - 07-Nov-2017 I think the choice which server is dependent not only on the quality of the server but also on which input sounds best. If that will be ethernet after infinity core board upgrade (with new input and switch) the Zenith will be very likely what I want but if not I will look for something with AES out as I want to avoid multiple boxes/connections. RE: Innuos Zenith ripper/streamer - Devialetuser - 08-Nov-2017 I am currently using the SOtM sMS-200Ultra and SOtM sPS-500 with standard copper wire with a Melco N1A. The result is spectacular to say the least. End game really. |
