RE: Antoine's system - Morten - 17-Jun-2015

I feel for you, I use to suffer from grass pollen allergy in an extreme way, I had to stay in bed for some days each year.

But I am not on year 2 on this cure.

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/allergy-and-asthma/medicines/grazax.html

You have to take one each day for three years... But they do work...

I do apologies for the OT

Regards from Denmark

Thanks for the tip Morten! I never suffered any allergies in my life until a few years back, no idea why then all of a sudden I started having these allergies. It's only mild I suppose and limited to mainly a running nose and itchy eyes, although it also drains a lot of energy. Anyway, I will manage! Smile

Small update; my Regen was stuck in customs since June 13th, but it was released today though so I hope to receive it tomorrow, I have to pay €22,44 in customs duties etc.

RE: Antoine's system - Antoine - 24-Jun-2015

Last Friday my Regen was delivered. First I wasn't sure if there were any changes in sound (my ears weren't working like they should due to the effects of hay fever) but yesterday I did hear differences. Some of those were positive but some were not.

Earlier I opened a topic at the JPlay forum (http://jplay.eu/forum/index.php?/topic/1781-any-jcat-users-here-that-have-the-regen-from-uptone-audio/) to see if there are other JCAT and Regen users but none have reported themselves thus far. There are plenty of SoTM/PPA Audio users though and they are all positive about the Regen. Someone suggested trying with a LPSU instead of the SMPS delivered with the Regen which was and is indeed my plan. My reply, I guess, I also relevant here.

Quote:I have a 'cheapo' 9V LPSU on order and was planning to use that to power the Regen and the TP Link FMC (copper ethernet to fiber ethernet media converter) connected to my music server.

Yesterday however I remembered, after reading a post by someone at CA (http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f10-music-servers/uptone-audio-regen-22803/index70.html#post438974), that I still own a BOTWS LPSU with Sbooster which I stopped using before after I received my HDPlex LPSU. It's the 12V version but since the Devialet doesn't use USB bus power I connected it to the Regen anyway. It was too late to give it a critical listen but I connected it and played the sound of the TV series I was watching to see if the Regen got warm or hot. It didn't so I am confident it'll be safe (this of course together with the knowledge I got from John Swensons posts and FAQ about powering the Regen using anything above 7.5V).

You can read from the above that I've also recently switched to fiber networking. I've also upgraded to JPlay 6.1 and I was still making up my mind about the new 8.1 Devialet firmware. So I am currently "sinning" as in changing more than one thing at a time! Wink I'm giving myself a time-out and relax a bit, i.e. give myself more time to evaluate all the different changes. It's best if stop updating this topic until I am confident what change amounts to what result. No one should of course be stopped or doubted in the least by my postings (as if they would! Wink), in purchasing a Regen if they were planning to do so.

So long story short, I usually take more time to evaluate changes and actually started 'sharing' too soon.

PS: I'm sure most of the people interested in/owning a Regen already know but Chris and John, the creators of the Regen, are planning a power supply add-on. Release date ideally mid-September. (also see link above and then a few posts down)

PS: The Regen does not fit under the lid of the 250 with the supplied short adapter. Better said, it fits but you can't close the lid.

Problem solved! Heart

Just posted this on CA:

http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f6-dac-digital-analog-conversion/uptone-audio-regen-listening-impressions-24078/index23.html#post439140

Quote:I was about to post a similar message but you beat me to it!

The magic seems fully back again here and more, goosebumps all over. This listening to the Regen with the 12V LPSU I mentioned. A loud, cheering and applauding audience sounds like that again instead of an annoying source of 'white noise'. Also the strain, slight edge in the highs is gone again. I'm listening louder then ever while enjoying it more than ever. Very happy again.

Conclusion: IMHO the Regen is great but it needs a really good quality power source, a better one than the supplied SMPS to shine! Can't wait to see with what kind of PSU add-on Alex and John come up with, I hope it can even beat the best LPSU!

Going back to listening some more, hope these "second chance first impressions" remain to be true!

***SOLVED*** Forummember Morten helped me out! Thnx!

Hi Antoine (or someone else), do you still have a copy of the 1.67 Thesycon drivers? I'm looking for the control panel .exe to change some settings.
The link you provided doesn't work anymore (http://luckit.biz/downloads/Luckit%20WaveIO%20Drivers%20(v1.67.0).rar) and it doesn't seem to be available anywhere else on the net. Let me know!

Small update, I've replaced my old and slow iPad 3 for an iPad Pro so later I can also start experimenting with Roon. Not just yet, waiting for Roon Speakers functionality.

I've also ordered a Curious USB cable and Curious Regen link. It gets raving reviews , also from users I trust. So very curious how it'll compare to the TotalDAC D1 USB cable which I really like but could have sounded just a little bit more open/lively in my system. If I don't like it I can return it in 30 days and get a full refund incl. return shipping costs. If I do like it a TotalDAC cable will probably hit the used market soon after. Smile

I'll be interested in how you get on with the iPad Pro. I have always found that I much prefer using the "full screen" version of music players on an actual PC screen, rather than the "cut down" versions you get on an iPad app. I'm not sure if we will ever get any "full screen" type apps for the iPad Pro, but I guess in any case you could use an iPad Pro to control anything full screen using Windows Pro and a remote desktop app?

Hi confused, sorry only noticed your post now. The iPad Pro is great, it replaced an old iPad 3 which simply had become too slow to use comfortably. I not only use it as a remote for music (and home automation) but also for web browsing, Facebook, messaging, watching video's/TV etc. I prefer it over any PC/laptop except for the type of work that "produces" stuff. The iPad, for me, is for "consuming" stuff. Smile It's a personal preference of course, to each his own.

RE: Antoine's system - Antoine - 07-Jan-2016

Yesterday I ordered the industrial version of the Intona High Speed USB 2.0 Isolator (http://intona.eu/en/products). This is the worlds first full galvanic isolator to fully isolate the USB 2.0 bus in all speed modes up to the 480Mbps High Speed mode we also use for high res USB audio. It'll block the electrical noise from a USB source like PC/music server or streamer/Mac into (in my case) the Devialet.

There's two versions, the standard and industrial version. I chose the industrial version based on what PeterSt wrote about it here: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3297.msg36926#msg36926

I will try it in place of my Uptone Audio Regen (with 12V linear BoTWS PSU).

The chain will be:

Music server -> JCAT USB PCIe interface (powered by JCAT battery PSU) -> Curious 0.8m USB cable -> Intona -> Curious 0.2m USB cable (Regen link) -> Devialet 250.

Very curious to how it will sound, the Regen already brought quite an improvement. Hope to receive it later this week/early next week.

RE: Antoine's system - Hifi_swlon - 08-Jan-2016

Can't wait to hear. I read an article about it by chance but it seems quite under the radar - I guess because it's not designed for audio specifically.

It seemed quite expensive, but I guess it depends how it sounds.
