It was a disc of Schubert's 9th Symphony that first really hooked me on classical music. I was in my second year at Uni and I must have picked the LP up by accident when gathering my records together to go back because it was one of my Mum's record club discs.
Anyway that was the thin end of the wedge and by my third year I was voraciously learning as much new (to me obviously ) classical music as I could and going to loads of concerts.
Anyway I recently got an Amazon mailshot about a new DG Schubert edition box set. It had loads of interesting recordings included so I ordered it.
It arrived this morning and the first disc I am listening to has 3 different historic versions of the 8th symphony, Kleiber/Wiener Philharmoniker, Furtwangler/Berliner Philharmoniker and Stokowski/ LPO
I am listening to this disc first.
I am loving it too.
