D prem , Giya G1's
#1
Roon and tidal to a Squeezebox touch in the digital domain , minidsp dirac DDRC 22 room correction  to Devialet Spdif .. Munsdorf silver ribbon speaker cables
Fully treated 8m x 6m dedicated room , 4 x SVS sb13 ultra subs to smooth room response .. I use a meridian 568.2 to control all of them. The whole room is fed by a 5kva pure sine wave converter running off 6 x 200ah batteries
The walls of the room are acoustic panels on battens with uthermo behind , the ceiling is more the same , but solid , not slotted and pierced like the walls. The ceilings have "faux rock" diffusion .. fully configurable listening chair.

Nice setup. Why Roon via a SBT? I've a SBT touch too but playing Roon via Ehternet gives a much better quality.

The D Premier doesnt have Ethernet or USB and the Dirac box requires either spdif , aes/ebu or toslink input
I did use the minidsp ministreamer which is a usb to spdif device , but the wireless to SBT sounded better to me..

Hi Rodney,
how does the battery power compare to a normal wall outlet ? How are you charging the batteries ? And what about the stand-by power consumption, is it not draining the batteries ?

best regards,
Bernd

My main reason for going battery is very unstable electricity supply here - brownouts , spikes and rolling blackouts lasting 2-3 hours a time .. surges when the switch it back on.
Batteries are charged via solar panels and normal supply
Whatever the case is , the system runs thru the batteries and always does ac to DC and then regenerated ac and will only switch to mains direct if the batts get as low as 40% charge as lower than that is not good for deep cycle batteries. If there is no mains supply , the batts will deliver as long as they have capacity to do so

The hifi could possibly consume more than 5kva , as the subs are 1kw class d amps and can do 3kw peaks...
But playing at ear splitting levels with everything maxed and deep deep low bass , the worst I have seen via the system is about 1.2kw .. other stuff like a tv , router , satellite , led lights etc also get the feed.. maybe 350watts in total

6 x 200ah batts will give me about 15 hours at a 2kva load at more than 40% capacity .. standby will maybe be 10x that.. solar and mains charging takes care of standby draining. I have never seen less than 80% capacity on the inverter/batteries
The system cost around $3500..
As to sonics.. well no juice - no music , but it didnt sound any worse with the system in place.. I tried a few power chords , but heard no difference with them.

thanks for the info. So you are mainly using batteries because you have an instable power net, not because of better SQ.
btw, we have very similar systems. I have a Devialet 800 with a Giya G2, additionally I use a B&W DB1 sub. Unfortunately my listening room is much smaller than yours, only 4x5 m. But Devialet and Vivid speakers are a perfect match.

Absolutely , Giya and Devalet are indeed a fortuitous pairing , in fact just about every Giya owner I know (around 12 in Cape town) , from g4 to g1 's use devialets.
I am angling for that extra d prem. but really it would be a vanity purchase for me as a single is more than enough.. My G1's are the latest update with an improved sensitivity figure (true 93 db or so)
vivids are also very special speakers .. I have heard the whole range and even the 1.5's are marvels.. all my pals who have upgraded from their first vivid's have done so within the range.
G2's should have actually been my choice .. but the difference in price to me to the G1's was not huge..so I went all in Smile

PMFJI but Rodney has D-Premiers so no SAM but in my small experience SAM makes the biggest difference with small speakers so I don't imagine there will be much "correction" in a G1 SAM file...
Devialet Original d'Atelier 44 Core, Job Pre/225, Goldmund PH2, Goldmund Reference/T3f /Ortofon A90, Goldmund Mimesis 36+ & Chord Blu, iMac/Air, Lynx Theta, Tune Audio Anima, Goldmund Epilog 1&2, REL Studio. Dialog, Silver Phantoms, Branch stands, copper cables (mainly).

you are right, no SAM with DPremier. SAM makes a big difference for the G2, but for me it is too big. I'm not using it anymore.
