Roon Core on QNAP or Synology
#1
Anyone with experience w/ this.  Currently running a Aries Mini.  Im inclined to simple setups.  Wondering if Roon Core running on a NAS (Synology or QNAP) fed to Devialet via USB with an Iphone app (no computer) would better my current set up. Any concerns with noise into the system from the NAS.

make sure you have 64 bit Synology and not 32.
Roon packages are 64 bit only for Synology.

I am interested if SQ via NAS is on par?

Well I have run RoonServer on my Synology NAS without any issues, other than slightly degraded performance when doing a search in the Roon client. However I was using it with a Mac Mini acting as the RoonBridge and USB connection to my D400.

It sounded fine in this setup. I also ran it with a microRendu rather than the Mac Mini and that sounded very very good as well.

However I have since switched to running RoonServer on the Mac Mini with AIR3 and that sounds to my ears as good as the setup with the microRendu.

I never tried it using the USB out on the NAS to the D400.

Also when running RoonServer on my NAS ( Synology 1812+ ) I would get drop outs when sending DSD128 files ( which were down converted by Roon to feed the D400 ). That is probably an edge case for you, sorry I don't have the exact information you are seeking.
