Devialet in Japan?
#1
Question
I noticed on the website of Devialet that there isn´t distribution in Japan. What do you think that is the reason? It is a very important market that lacks distribution...

Stella (http://stella-inc.com) was a Devialet distributor in Japan until about a year ago. As of now, there is no distributor available and we are not able to audition new products such as Expert Pro or Phantom..... I heard that Devialet was becoming demanding along with their growth and Stella could not cater to Devilaet's request.

Can it be because in Japan the audio hi-end is a very special market where sq is well above other sophistications?

My understanding is that Stella managed to sell quite a few Devialet while they were importing, but probably not as many as expected by Devialet HQ.

Cheers,
Bernard

Heard from the grapevine that Devialet offended the big distributor in Japan and now no one else dares to take up the distributorship.

That should not surprise us... Devialet has shown that they follow a different kind of logic that most of us do not understand. That this leads to offence in some parts of the world is easy to understand.

That makes two at least; The initial Devialet importer in Australia (AVation) wasn't happy with them either.

A few dealers that I spoke to in and around London that dropped the brand, basically said Devialet became impossible to stock around the time of the Phantom launch. Allegedly they went 'a bit Apple' and if you weren't prepared to devote a large portion of your store to Phantom, as well as agree sales targets, then you couldn't do experts either. No idea how much truth there was to it - but they were definitely quite pi**ed off with Devialet.
