New Macbook Pro with Touchbar - Regarding USB to Devialet
#1
Well it is obvious that we are forced to use their adapter to get a USB A->B digital audio cable going to the amplifier. What do you guys think ? is Apple's USB adapter is the weak point here ? Do I get sound quality degradation ?

Will I benefit from buying a USB C to USB A adapter from audioquest ? assuming it MAY have a slight higher quality materials and much shorter (better)?

Your input is appreciated.

Try AIR (WiFi or Ethernet). If that works for you it probably sounds nearly as good to better than USB. If you need to use USB I would be on an AudioQuest cable sounding better than an Apple cable but buy if from where you can return it if the improvement isn't worth the money.

I am inquiring about the audioquest usb adapter vs apple usb adapter not the cable. But yeah, I should give ethernet a run.

Sorry that I didn't read your post carefully enough. Adapter quality will probably have less impact than cable quality. If you use ethernet you're still dependent upon cable quality.

Always prefer an asynchronous solution (AIR) than a synchronized one (most USB connections)...

I have one of these MacBook Pro and I am using a Cable Matters USB 2.0 Type C (USB-C) to Type B (USB-B) Printer Scanner Cable and it works with my D250Pro. I found that adapters are more problematic (have not tried Audioquest yet) sound wise.
I tried a USB-C to ethernet adapter to use AIR via ethernet but that did not work at all and Devialet support did not know how to make ethernet with the new MacBooks work and just recommended USB.

It's really worth it to get a microRendu.

Not if you can get Air going.  The minute sound difference isn't worth the price, extra box and power supply.

I agree, I meant if you need a USB connection. AIR doesn't work consistently for me. When it works it doesn't sound as good as my Antipodes, but that's a lot more $ than either AIR or a microRendu.

Not true. Almost all USB Audio solutions nowadays are asynchronous. The Devialet uses the XMOS implementation which is also asynchronous.
