As far as I can see Devialet SAM has not been mentioned in the thread so far. If I were you I'd make a list of interesting (to you) 'small-ish' speakers from the SAM database. SAM is very clever technology and with the 440 Pro you could make an incomplete choice if not considering SAM enabled speakers. SAM is able to create 'full range' performance from a two way without pushing the speaker beyond limits.
The Diablo utopia lll is a good example. Adding an octave of bass extension and keeping a healthy 8mm driver excursion.
