Devialet Phantom I: no sound but Bluetooth works
#1
Hello everyone,

Today I connected to my Phantom I Silver via Bluetooth on my iPhone, and started playing music via Spotify. No sound comes out even though the speaker is connected.

I unplugged the speaker, plugged it back in and I can't hear the start-up sound. After several minutes I can see that I can connect via Bluetooth on 2 devices (my iPhone and my Mac).

But in both cases, I still can't hear any sound.

I tried to reset it by following the protocol on the iPhone application, but it was still the same: no start up sound, but the speaker could be detected via Bluetooth.

I've run out of ideas before contacting Devialet (who will charge me €600 to repair it, according to their website).

Thanks for all your help!

Sounds like a faulty amplifier module. As long as you can connect to the speaker, Devialet should be able to troubleshoot remotely. I would contact customer service.

To clarify, I can absolutely connect via Bluetooth to my speaker, whatever the device. Just no sound coming out.

And when I plug the speaker in, it doesn't make the start-up sound.

When I try to pair it via the app, the Devialet app doesn't see it, even when I'm connected via bluetooth to it.

Does it obtain an ip address when connected to ethernet by cable?

I don't have an Ethernet cable right now but let me check, I'll get back to you as soon as I can try!

Thanks Ragwo!

If its not making a startup sound then it points to an amp issue... I suggest calling support...

Hello everyone,

First of all, thank you for your answers and your help.

So here's an update on the situation:

- after Ragwo's last message, I tried to see on my return if I could see an IP address via WiFi for the Devialet. The answer was no on the router interface. I unplugged my Phantom, plugged it back in electrically, and miraculously it started up (with the famous launch noise) and no problem, either via iPhone or Macbook, playing music.

- The next day, all over again: I could connect via Bluetooth but there was no sound.

- So I tried connecting the Devialet via an Ethernet cable to connect to it via the IP address. Now I can see that the speaker is on the router, and by connecting to the speaker's IP address, I can access its options. The sound is 100% authorised, so I took the opportunity to reset the speaker to its factory settings.

- The speaker then restarted (the famous launch noise), I added it to the Wifi (still connected to the Ethernet on the router), I connected to Bluetooth and via the Devialet app, I associated it.

- No problem now, I can listen to music. I disconnected the Ethernet cable and saw that the speaker had a WiFi IP address, which also allowed me to access its options.

After about an hour and a half, the sound stopped, but the music player on my iPhone continued to "play" on the speaker via Bluetooth, and I could still see the speaker on the WiFi IP list.

I restarted the speaker electrically, plugged it back into Ethernet and the speaker restarted and I could again hear the music.

I'm really confused by the situation. I'm planning to restart my router on it's default mode to totally clean the Wifi network.

Do you have any idea?

Seems like you have an intermittent amplifier problems. You should contact Devialet support and ask them for a remote troubleshooting and a quote for repair.

Hi, I have a 2016/2017 gloss white 103db Phantom 1 and I've been having exactly the same issues as the original poster.

The result being that I have been dealing with Jean-Baptiste at Devialet and he says my speaker needs an internal repair at Devialet, for about NZ$1200/EU600, which they are asking me to pay now.  However, he told me that "our repair capacity is currently limited and we are temporarily unable to process this repair immediately, we will place your request on hold and contact you as soon as our repair operations resume in the coming weeks."

Then in another email:  "I can put your repair case on hold and keep you informed once you are back as I do not have any confirmed date for the repair procedure resumption." Meaning they want paying now, without any guide as to when (if at all) they will be able to repair.

Given Devialet's financial situation over the last year, I am very reluctant to send money or to send my Phantom for repair, in case they fold and I don't get it back.  This has happened to me before with another company!

Any ideas - has anyone had the same response recently regarding a repair or otherwise.  Thanks in advance
