Dropouts - help please
#1
I'm getting occasional dropouts.

System is all wired:

Sky Q modem -> Ethernet -> Airport Extreme -> Ethernet -> Expert Pro 250

I'm using Connect HD from iPhone or iPad and sometimes bubble uPnP from Amazon Fire HD.

I was using an ASUS RT-86U as the access point/switch, but swapped in an old Extreme that was sitting unused for years.

Both operating on a 5khz network.

I think the problem may be that the ASUS / AE  were sitting in a cupboard (all my hifi is in an enclosed unit out of sight).

I have moved the AE outside and so far no problem.

Is there a line of sight issue with 5Ghz, or anything else that might be the reason?

p.s. I appreciate that I could just run Bubble Server, as I have a QNAP sitting next to the modern upstairs in the office.

The QNAP is not used for music, I have an Aries Mini with a SSD drive in it acting as a server, but I don't use it as a player anymore now the CI is working so well.

Difference between the 5 GHz and the 2.4 GHz frequency band!

Interference:
A 5GHz network has a smaller problem of taking up interference because most wireless devices such as Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, microwaves, and computers use the 2.4GHz frequency.

Reach:
The 5 GHz band has a shorter range compared to a 2.4 GHz band, because in radio frequencies, the higher the frequency, the shorter its range. In other words, if you use a lower frequency such as 2.4 GHz, the distance that will be covered will be greater than with the 5 GHz band.

Might be worth noting that if you have walls in the "line of sight" between the AP and client devices, 5 GHz suffers more than 2.4 GHz.

A bit of confusion here. You say the system is all wired. So why are we talking WIFI issues?

If I'm using uPnP on a tablet or computer, surely that is wireless?

If the uPnP is running from a server, which you can do with bubble, then it is all wired.

Anyway, since moving the Airport Extreme outside of the cabinet the problem seems to have resolved.

I had a brief email conversation with Mathieu Pernod this morning on this. He said that in his experience and speaking with other audio companies, most of the issues reported to them are network/internet issues rather than issues with the manufacturers' products.

The very first streaming system I used (Linn Akurate DS) did not work properly because the ethernet switch I purchased from Maplin was not fast enough. Wasted a couple of hours because I went for the cheapest and saved £5.

OK, so your music is on the wireless device. I get it now. Yeah mate, good WIFI reception is a must. ASUS and the Airport Extreme are probably your best bets. I'm using an Extreme for WIFI and we've just built on so now the house is bigger I'm considering an ASUS. Their latest can be coupled together to make one giant network so there's no limitation in a normal home setup. If it's not enough, just ad another router. Simple  Smile

As other people have replied - it is almost certainly due to your home wifi setup.  I used to have the same experience with both Devialet and Bluesound products until I had to change my router several months ago and the dropouts have disappeared.  I admit that I used to think that the problem was with the audio products rather than the router - obviously I was wrong!

Hi, on the HighEnd, I had a very interesting conversation with a network specialist on the subject of IP allocation, throughput etc. After some time, he gave me the advice, they switched to their router a decent Lan switch (the built-switch in the routers are not the best). So only a Lan cable from the router to the switch. All other LAN cables now on the new switch. A friend of mine, has implemented the tip, he had me aborts and dropouts in TIDAL. So far no problems with TIDAL. But it can also be a coincidence !! Shy

I have it on the same way with a simple d-link dgs-108 switch and give the lines by my router to my dialog and  phantoms the highest quality of support (QOS) and all function flawlesly
