Fredouille setting
#1
Hi every body,

I am a brand newbie, so I take the opportunity to show my system (future system).

French (sorry for the poor english), 49 years old.

I started in HIfi 5 years ago. I was very keen on one device for one purpose.

First I had an Laptop, Dac an integrated amplifyer.

Then, as the ampification was not powed enought (the living room is 100 sq meters) an moved to Dac, Pre-amp, Active filter (2 voices), 2 amps.

And I did built 2 PCs (server-player).

Due to physical issues, and bored to light on 7 devices to listen to music, I thought of symplifying my system.

Sold all of them and kept my speakers and one Audio PC.

I recently bought a D250. Which will be at home around October the 25th.

In the meantime, I would like to set my server on order to be ready to use when the amp will arrive.

As it is a non Pro, I was wondering if the following software will work (the Expert has not the same capabilities as he Pro) :
- Windows Server 2019.
- Jplay Femto Server.
- Audiophile optimizer.
- Fidelizer Pro.

Connection will be made by either RJ45 or USB (do not know what would be the best for).

Remote with Ipad Pro.

Stay wide opened to your advices

Best regards.

Fred

Bienvenue!

If you decide to go the USB route, then any software will work as the D250 will appear as an USB audio card.

If you decide to go the Ethernet route (RJ45) when you need Air to make the Devialet appearing as a virtual audio card on the PC.
You can find Air on Devialet’s website.

There again, any software should be able to send music to that virtual card and therefore the D250.

As for which one is the best, I think you should trust your ears since you will find people for whom usb sounds better while for others this is the Air.

Happy preparation and then enjoy the music.

Cordialement,

Jean-Marie

Hi Jean-Marie,

Many thanks ofr your infos.

I was wondering if Experts are Ok with upnp, I cannot remember where, but I read, somewhere they where not.

As I will adapt my server to the 250, Jcat USB XE or Jcat NetCard Femto that's the reason why I was asking which one is better (USB or RJ45).

I revert to JPLAY Femto. I will just need to install the server version and the Devialet's streamer wil read It ? Is that correct ?
So JPLay Femto is made for USB connection. Wil it recognize the Air virtual Sound card ?

Many thanks for your help.

Have a Nice day.

If I’m not mistaken he has the non Pro, so the non CI equiped Expert which does not support uPnP natively over ethernet. One has to use Air there or connect an endpoint which ‘converts’ uPnP to USB.

yes, as @Antoine says, to my knowledge, UpnP requires de CI, therefore it is not available for non pro versions.

So if I understand well, I will not be able to connect RJ45 to use Devialet input ?

Therefore, the set-up would be :
- PC jplay server and PLayer
- USB via Air ?

AM I correct ?

What would be a suitable set-up to make it work through RJ45 (hardaware and software) ?

Thank you guys and have a nice day.

Frédéric,

I'm not a specialist of windows, nor JPlay Femto either, so I don't know how deep in the windows stack they are interfacing.

There is a possibility that it only allows USB if it interfaces deep enough and bypasses most of the windows stack.

Unless another member have already this experience or deeper knowledge, I would venture that only experimentation will tell you for sure.

Concerning the relative quality of the two interfaces, I will say two things:
  1. If you browse this forum (as well as others) you will find people who have been able to use one or the other approach to their satisfaction and for whom their interface of choice was the best.
  2. Personally, I have not distinguished any difference between the various interfaces and I am using indifferently USB, Air or Roon Raat (pro-ci only) with the only two distinctions for me being that USB has ultra-low latency while RJ45 has inherent latency due to buffers needed to compensate network jitter from one hand and for the other hand USB imposes me to have my laptop close to my D220 while network solution allows me to keep it in my office.
So I am convinced that you can reach a similar level of quality with both.

No exactly!

Air is only over a network, WiFi or Ethernet (RJ45).

Over USB, the Devialet uses the standard asynchronous protocols to transfer audio over USB, like any DAC with a USB input.

Of course. If he doesn't upgrade it to Pro - he doesn't even have UPnP support.
