UPnP control point survey
#31
(05-May-2018, 13:40)ogs Wrote: @ssfas  my experience is a bit different than yours it seems. The CI has made an overall improvement due to (most likely) better clocking. I still have better sound quality via the Mutec re-clocker than direct. Similar to @Confused, but he also uses the REF10 clock from Mutec in his setup.
I am going to try UPnP soon just to know how it performs. One never knows....

The benefit from Mutec may be due to using jittery computer sources. I have never used a computer source. My preference has been either uPnP (which now works perfectly with beta 14 up to 192/24) or via a usb streamer.

No, I do not think so. The Mutec is re-clocking the data stream itself. Your reference to the Intona USB device is not relevant here as USB is packet data (as is ethernet) and can not be re-clocked the same way. My signature details which devices I use.

Ironic that between the great clamouring for UPnP from early Devialet often from owners who upgraded from Linn and Naim that by the time it was added most people had adopted an alternative...

You will see from my revised signature that I don't use computers or anything in the least bit computery as I don't understand them. Hence I don't know what half your stuff is. I used usb streaming for years. Now that uPnP is working properly, I mainly stream Qobuz using bubble uPnP, I have an Asus access point connected by ethernet and powered by an external PSU fed from a PS Audio P3 regenerator. Really very simple and sounds lovely. The Aries Mini is now used only as a server.

My family use the system as much as I do, my wife and I were watching BBC Young Musician of the Year this evening, the sound off the Sky Q box is excellent.

Voted for other as my Lumin L1 doesn’t need a control point.

Lumin L1 > Apple extreme > SOtM SMS 200 > USB > Devialet

I voted Other, because I have an Aurender and have no use for upnp. I bought the Aurender to be rid of all the issues with half-working apps, a Mac that ask for passwords, etc. An Aurender can play the music from a NAS, stream from Tidal and Quobuz and has internet radio and all that is controlled from a nice app (granted, not as nice as Roon, but still very decent).

Finally got around to voting “Other” as I use ROON.
1. NUC6i5SYH running ROON ROCK > ROON/AIR > Ethernet > Devialet 1000pro Core Infinity> Wilson-Benesch ACT Speakers,
or, as alternative,
2. Wyred4Sound MS-2 Server, Devialet 1000pro Core Infinity, Theta Jade CD Transport, Pure 702ES Tuner, Wilson-Benesch ACT Speakers, misc cables

Like PeterS I still use an external streamer afte many tries to get air working. Not very handy with computers, so benefit from a turn key solution that is pretty much bullit proof. Not upgraded to Pro either, because this combination delivers a fail free performance.

It does itch every once in a while when I ask myself if maybe sound quality might be better after upgrading to Pro CI. So who knows. Voted other since I use a Linn Akurate DS/1 to enjoy the music.

Votes ‚Other‘. I use Roon running on a Mac Mini connected via Ethernet to my Devialet. Runs like a charm. So no interest in UPnP control.

Seems to me that this survey is dominated by Roon users who detract from the purpose of the survey. As a non Roon user, Upnp is a big benefit with my music on a NAS and given me options to do things. Using Bubble Upnp.
