Technologies like those that replace USB and/or uPnP/DLNA/OH solutions with ethernet based solutions like Ravenna/AES67 (or similar). See http://nadac.merging.com/nadac for an example. We've just seen it happen with DSD!

Hi Antoine can you explain these innovations and what they mean to our hobby?

Cheers

well honestly it depends who you ask.

alex of uptone audio believes that the ravenna standard (its a method of sharing audio over a network like dlna/upnp but different, its an old standard used in broadcasting its just now being implemented in hifi) wont be worth it and there will be no benefit over other standards but then theres some people on the other side of the fence as well.

Hi Guillaume, the things I mentioned are of course just examples that may make it/or not. The main point I was trying to make is that computer audio is moving at such an incredible fast pace that relatively big investments in non- or limited upgradable gear may prove to become disappointing. With all these advances made over the past several years also in DAC's even my own Devialet today already feels a bit 'antiquated' -to me-. Smile

NB. About Ravenna, there's a some explanation about the technologies and their uses in our hobby here: http://nadac.merging.com/networking and here: http://www.merging.com/products/pyramix/ravenna

IMO it would be a great replacement technology for the proprietary, badly performing Devialet AIR BTW. Smile
Wow some really interesting stuff in here:

Could this provide the fix that AIR so badly needs??!

We could suggest it to them - but my punt is that they have decided that Dialog will be their universal hub so that will be the AIR replacement and there may be no appetite (or space) for what looks a possible replacement here - which would be a pity!
