I watched Prometheus through my sky box the other night - and my phantoms are a good 8ft to the side and 4ft to the front of the telly - with me sat only a couple of foot further back

I was totally bewildered by the voices coming from the TV rather than the speakers, yet with effects coming from the speakers when intended

I had to keep checking the TV was muted it was so surreal.

Then I watched an older TV programme yesterday and it sounded like the voices were coming from the speakers

I have no clue about surround sound and all that - what was happening to make the good film project the image so amazingly??

Thanks!
Jamie
Hi, Jamington2004

Did you use optical out from TV, to a Phantom/Dialog? And did you notice any audio delay?

Thanks.

Optical from sky box to switching box to dialogue

No delay at all

The sound and timing was pinpoint to their mouths it was incredible!

Still don't know how or why without a centre speaker right under the TV?

Have you tried output from TV, instead of directly from sky box?...

edit: I don't have SKY, but the one I have has optical output, also! So, I'll try it out, when I hook up my Phantoms...sometime in the near future. Rolleyes

Thanks for the feedback!
So, I tried optical from DVR to right Phantom, and it works great. No noticeable delay.

p.s - If any of you switch from one optical source, to the optical source of you DVR, and your Phantoms don't wake up to the DVR source, just go to digital audio options, on you DVR, and change setup, and then go back to how you want it setup, and it should update/wake the optical. (I did try to play the setup that I didn't want to, before going back to the setup I wanted, when trying to wake the signal, even though I knew it was not going to play anything because I don't have surround, just stereo. Don't know if that made a difference, instead of just switch to surround, and then back to stereo, without trying to play surround. Will try the latter next time...)
