Read that somewhere a while back.

Wondering if anyone else have tried that.... I usually don't use any 'covers' for my speaker drivers as I think I can tell a difference.

Have you still not got yours yet, MountainGuy? Seems like you've been researching forever. Wish I had your willpower instead of spend first, suffer later.

I can only say that the grilles detach easily, as they did by accident with me. Didn't bother to analyse effect on sound though.
Actually I have a few Phantoms at my home still sealed in the shipping boxes, but I've been on a very extended trip overseas....Smile Can't wait to test them out - even when I get back, there will still be a lot of work to catch up.

So asking questions ahead of time. Smile

The cover is part of the design and performance is likely to be worse without. It is not a clothe grille.
The design of the twetter cover is a purely aesthetic tribute to the founder of modern acoustics Ernst Chadli as explained in this article :
" The nod to embellishment is the small, coaxial speaker cover. This laser-cut squiggly, which resembles a Moroccan motif, is actually a tribute to Ernst Chladni, the 18th century German scientist known as the “father of acoustics.” His famous experiments with salt and vibrating pulses resulted in surprisingly complex geometric designs. The one Devialet appropriated is the pattern created by a 5907 Hz pulse."
