Full Version: Cable from SUT to Devialet?

Hi

I am about to start experimenting with a SUT instead of the MC stage in the Devialet (see the thread on phono hiss for more info).

Is there any specific requirement for the phono cable used to connect the SUT to the Devialet? Conscious it's a lower signal than a usual line-level output - some manfacturers (Black Rhodium, Tellurium) make special cables just for this. Obviously I will need an earth lead, but that's not too much of an issue ;-)

But the cable itself - any views?

Thanks
I just made one up 2 metres long using Van Damme Pro Grade Classic XKE Pro-Patch Cable at a staggering £1.78 per metre from maplin and it sounds f*****g awesome.

Very good. But this is the same cable that you would use for line level? No difference for a lower MM signal?
I am using this on a low output MC cartridge with no problems.
There is no technical reason why a different cable would be required for the low level signal in question, it carries a similar signal to a MM cartridge which have been successfully connected to hifi systems for decades.
One could argue that there are connectors with better surface contact than phonos, such as the Lemos on my arm, but these are generally not used in most hifi.
There is a strong marketing reason for a special cable though.
Yes, funny how little difference me using this cheap cable makes compared to other rather mor costly ones.
