Hi,

I am considering buying a Devialet 120, but my buying decision will be mainly based on a the streaming capabilities of the Devialet 120.

I am a heavy Android (Tablet/Phone) and Chromebook user. I do not own apple products and never will. Also, I only use windows notebooks for work purposes only. Given this situation the advertised AIR functionality for streaming to Devialet is not an option for me.

However, a key use case for my Devialet will be to stream lossless music from Tidal and to a lesser extend to stream my FLAC and MP3 files on my NAS via an App on my Android Phone/Tablet.

In order to realize this I am currently looking for high quality options that stream music to my devialet and let the Devialet DAC do the conversion job. I am not interested in buying a high quality >1.000€ Streamer from Linn or NAIM etc. as I do not need/want their DAC capabilities.

Currently, I only know about the following options:
1. BlueSound Node 2 (soso app interface which is rumored to get a design overhaul)
2. Auralic Aries Mini (unfortunately, the Android App is not working yet)
3. Audioengine B1 (not a preferably)

Also:
How should I connect these Streamers to the Devialet? Via Toslink or analog cinch?

Regards
Kian
Have you ruled out a Sonos Connect? It fits your needs, I think; if your main requirement is for Tidal streaming then the fact that it does not support higher than CD resolution may not be a big deal. Android app is available.
Roon is fantastic - they are shortly launching RoonSpeakers which will allow you to stream from a Raspberry PI (or similar) via USB to Roon. Connects to Tidal & controllable from iPad Air.

thanks thumb for the hint. i will look into this.

@rik
in how far does roon cover my need? I thought roon is just a GUI for managaing my music library. In how far does it help me to stream content via the Devialet?
Sonos Connect is a good option if you are not seeking higher than CD quality streaming, and its music services availability is great. Plus Sonos app is robust and available for Android devices.

As for Roon, you will need a computer (PC/Mac) and connect it to Le120 via USB or AIR. You can control Roon remotely via its Android tablet's app. Tidal is integrated well in Roon. But, that's about it. For the moment, there's no radio services or any other music services currently being offered on Roon other than Tidal. But Roon supports all music bitrates from 16/44.1 to 24/192 and DSD64.

I used both Sonos Connect and Roon. Sonos is a truly music appliance where you can just turn on and play. When I'm lazy, I just use Sonos to play music and I have lots of music options. I have tried Bluesound Node (1st gen) before and Tidal/Qobuz/Deezer/iHeartRadio/TuneIn are also available. The advantage of Bluesound is that it can support higher music bitrates up to 24/192 vs Sonos 16/44.1 limit. I do find Bluesound Node has better SQ than Sonos Connect. And, according to Whathifi.com's review, the Node 2 is even better. If you are not in China, then I would recommend Bluesound Node 2.

I have an Auralic Aries and I use Bubble upnp app on my Android to control it, I think this is better than Auralics app, much more stable and better funktions.
Is the quality of something like BlueSound comparable with the quality of Air?

Thanks HK for the detailed feedback.

I am still having some understanding issues regarding roon:
I understand from your description that I need to run roon 24/7 on a PC and connect it to the USB port of the Le120 in order to be able to play music on demand whenever I want. In order to control Roon I do not need to access the PC which is connected to the Devialet but can rather use the remote control app on my tablet for controlling Roon on my PC. Is this correct?

Regarding the Node2:
Do you expect any noticable SQ differences when connecting the Node to the Le120 via USB or Toslink? Based on my setup I cannot use the RCA connections.

On Roon, you're pretty much spot-on.

As for Node, you can use Toslink. I don't believe there's an USB output from Node. Please take note that Toslink is "supposed" to handle up to 24/96 bitrates only. But in my case, I was able to stream 24/192 music to my Le200. So, using Toslink should be good for you if you decide on Bluesound Node 2.
Ok.

Regardig toslink: according to the Devialet Website the toslink input can handle 24/192.

Regardig Node2: when playing music, would the node DAC be used or will the Devialet DAC be used for Streaming music?
