I was wondering if my two Phantom Silvers  +1 Dialogue and laptop source(via wifi) could operate, isolated from my domestic wifi. IE could I take my system somewhere  as use it, say if there was no wifi where I was? Hope that make sense!?
Thanks in advance
Dan

When you have one of the new Phantoms with BT then it can work (see my post above). However, you would need to connect your laptop with an optical output to the optical input of either a Phanom or Dialog and then use this to stream the music or you stream via BT to the Phantom. Latter will have less quality (no lossless), but is still quite good.

At least I can unplug the ethernet cable from Dialog, have all Phantoms and Dialog unplugged from power source. When I power up the Phantoms and Dialog without Connection to my home network I can play any source from Dialog's optical input. I have autodetect turned on and am streaming from a chromecast audio. The volume after Phantoms and Dialog have booted is fixed on 35. However using the Phantom app on an Ipad allows me to change that volume. Spark will not work as the Dialog is not connected to the network that the Ipad is on. However the Phantom app uses bluetooth from a Phantom to adjust the volume. How relieable this all works when you take the system to another location, e.g. a party I do not know.

Whoa Streamy,

This is remarkable. You mean that you have two phantoms, one dialog and once set up, you do not connect the dialog to any wifi setup?  You simply input optical into the dialog (I assume input into Phantoms would be fine too) and play and both Phantoms respond?  And you can play, pause, stop, start?  Can you confirm?

And your ipad is connected via bluetooth but the input audio is optical to the dialog?  Wow - had not idea that would function.  I suppose a wireless remote would work also to control volume.

Thanks!
Yes, no need to have an ethernet connection to Dialog. But as I described Spark does not work! It goes to setup mode. The other app that Devialet offers on IOS called Phantom, however functions. With this app you can control the newer version of Phantom that has built-in bluetooth. In my setup I have two old Phantoms from the first batch and one new one with BT. I can run all three Phantoms with Dialog set-up in two rooms. When I set all three in one 'room' then I can start them all without Dialog conected to my network and feed through an optical input stereo + mix to the Phantoms. Please try it and confirm if it also works for you. Control of play, pause etc. is done on the device that is fed in through the optical input.

Respect! This is a smart solution. It makes the Phantoms independent of an external network.
Dialog and Phantoms are using their own independent network always. This is done by either using Wifi or Ethernet cabling. Dialog also is a router that connects it's own music network to your home network. For a communication between Dialog and the Phantoms no access to an external network is necessary.

Whenever you want to use Spark to control volume or feed the Phantoms with music Dialog needs a connection to the network that also contains the device that is running Spark. If Dialog does not have a connection to this network you have two options:

1. You feed the Phantoms using bluetooth. The advantage is that you can control the volume of the Phantoms using the bluetooth device or app. The disadvantage is that sound quality of bluetooth is really worse compared to either wifi streaming or optical input. I personally am not able to listen to bluetooth sound for more than some minutes. If you are satisfied with it you better buy a much cheaper Sonos device.

2. You use optical input. This way you have highest possible sound quality but without Dialog connected to your home network won't be able to control volume because Spark app can't connect to Dialog. This is where Remote comes into play. Once you connected it to one of the Phantoms you can use it to control the volume regardless which kind of input you use. It even allows fine tuning of volume because it is much more sensible than volume control of Spark app. In fact optical input and remote make up a very nice combination.

Don't forget there is also the Phantom app on IOS (made for the Iphone but also works on an Ipad) that allows you to control the volume of the Phantoms same as the remote. Works only with the BT Phantom version, however no pairing needed. It has slightly more functions like mute and night mode.
