Ok ,  I now have this little USB to optical  device on my pc ,it feeds the optical in on my Dialog:

here it is :  http://hifimediy.com/DACs/ready-made-dacs/9018-dac

with this  device I can now play  HD  and / or upsample  up to 192khz , 16bit ,24bit or 32bit over optical.

I am  getting the Best  ever sound from my Phantoms. more air ,more detail, more Depth Big Grin Tongue Heart

it does need a driver for PC , Mac does not need one
  the driver is here:
  http://hifimediy.com/download/SaviAudioB...p0p0p5.zip

Foobar is my player of choice but it will work with all . .

yep it works ,44.1 upsampled in Foobar  to 192khz into the spark optical , its great.

Nice! I'm using an ifi ilink in the same way.

I think playing in spark had a very slight edge but it is very close. Do you find the hifimediy to be actually an improvement in sound?

Anyway the real bonus is being able to use Roon, Iriver or whatever player I fancy while spark comes up to speed. I use Spark for more critical listening though.

Atm I am using an Auralic Aries Mini to the optical input of Dialog and I am feeding it with qobuz Sublime. Sound is much more relaxed than with Spark app directly. Although this setup still uses the DAC of Dialog/Phantoms it is astonishing how much better the resolution is.

In addition the Auralic software is thousand times better than Spark app as it supports all features that Qobuz app supports too. Together with remote it is a nice setup.

If only Dialog would not get that hot. It really does not have the quality you should expect from Devialet and I would love to pay 100 Euros more to get a Dialog solution with a good case and a little bit more heat control.
Now have this on order...

sleach, presumably Spark still sound better than the ifi ilink even with lossless files   Are you using tidal?

Thanks

May I ask what you compared it with previously when you say 'mor air, detail, depth'?  Were you using Spark directly and with what service?

Thanks!
Just compared to  Spark playing 44.1khz flac  files from my pc   ,the little Hifime  usb optical upsampling device sounds better .

playing with the upsampling frequency rate and bit rates  is rewarding .

anyway, do not like using Spark for my pc music , its just not there yet compared to Foobar

you will hear it , its only $89 ,give it a shot ...

ps i do not work for them.  Rolleyes

pss , re  dialog heat , mine does not get that hot ,warm but not really  hot .
So if I have a bluray movie with Dolby HD/DTS-HD Master on my computer, can I get 24bit sound from it in stereo?
