Curious.  I had thought that wirelessly, the Phantoms connect connect to the wireless router.   However, it turns out that they connect to the Dialog. Basically once set up, you can connect the Phantoms to the Dialog without any wireless router.  Of course, that way, you can't stream via the internet.

Does that mean wirelessly, the Phantoms are not really connecting with  Wireless router but only the Dialog?

Thanks!
I have wondered what connects to what and how as well.  I would look to understand what setup is needed to maximize actual sound signal pathway through the wired connections in order to avoid wireless interference.  So I thought with ethernet connected phantoms, the sound pathway was wired and thus interference was minimized.   But now I wonder if ethernet connected phantoms just boost the wireless reception of the phantoms to increase wireless contact and the sound pathway between the phantoms and the router, or the dialog, what ever the pathway is (your question) is in fact wireless, so the sound pathway is always wireless.      Does anybody know for sure?

I had heard the dialog acted as a wireless router.   Does spark talk to Dialog or the wireless router?
Yes, the Phantoms only join in the Dialog's own Wireless Network. The Dialog then acts as a 'bridge' between that network and that of your main Router.

So, what is the purpose of the Ethernet connection on the Phantom ?
There are situations when Wifi Networks aren't stable. For example in big houses with lots of wifi routers. If you still want to be able to use Phantoms you will use ethernet cabling instead.

Thanks for the quick response.

OK, but then you miss the functions of the Dialog, so...no stereo and what else ?

Yes, very good point.  What if you want stereo Phantoms in 3 rooms? But only have 1 dialog?  How do you hard wire all three rooms for stereo?  I don't think you can do that. wireless is pretty essential for some scenarios.

Just because one person can use a wired solution does not mean that should be normatively prescribed for others.
The Dialog will communicate with the Phantoms regardless of whether it's connected through ethernet or wireless. If it's connected through ethernet it will communicate through your router, if wireless it communicates directly.

So, if I understand this well...wireless communication, if present, is the default and automatic choice. Now I want to use ethernet only...how to avoid the default wireless choice ?

Just plug everything with Ethernet cables and follow the setup procedure.

You can even disconnect the Dialog once the setup is finished (though you lose the ability to use Spark and its volume control), the stereo pairs will keep acting as such (the Phantoms communicate via your router).
