Hi everyone!

I'm new to Devialet club and I hope I'm going to stay longer than used to do with my previous systems Smile

Few weeks ago everyhing came in totally new to my home: speakers and Devialet so while burning in equipment, I'm trying to hear how much my new setup (Vivid B1d / D400) sounds different in comparison to the ex one (Avalon Indra / Plinius SA-103 & Kaitaki / Resolution Audio Cantata). Of all elements in audio chain only power conditioner and room are the same...

So until now, I would say that the sound is VERY different! It's airy, more resolute, very very "silent", with first class dynamics and superb bass which I so much adored on Plinius SA-103 A-class power amp Smile

More about SQ I will tell when everything settles down and I find more time for discerning listening.

Right now, there are problems with boomy bass due to backside woofer on my Vivids, I hope it would settle down a bit with use of some spike pads which would make bass more firm and less resonant in my living room. I also used tone controls by deacreasing bass output by 5dB and now is acceptable but not perfect. I'm hoping Dev room correction will be available soon.

Filip

Hard to beleive, but SR managed to make first dedicated power cord for any specific company...

I already ordered SR Element CTS power cords (soon to be received), but these new "for Devialet only" braught tears in my eyes Sad

Hi Filips,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the picture of your system and the info about the dedicated power cord. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts about the power cord.

I envy the Vivids; that is one make of speaker that I would love to hear; unfortunately, there are no dealers in Canada.

I'm pleased that you are happy with the sound of the Devialet system. I think the way you described it matches what most of other onwers would say also; excellent resolution, supremely quiet, and superb bass control.

Stick around; we're loads of fun.
Filips - That is a very nice looking system you have there. Hopefully you will be able to tame any bass issues you might have with the B-1d's, they are mighty fine looking speakers. I too would be interested in your thoughts on the power cords, though I shudder at the thought of having to pick a pair up...Wink

Thanks baddog, hope that spike pads will solve most of the bass problems!

Right now, I'm waiting for my dealer's feedback regarding Synergistic Research Atmosphere Devialet power cables (buying it instead of SR Element CTS), so stay tuned Wink

Thanks Damon, most people I see here are satisfied with their Devialet systems. Definitely complimentary for Dev.

Really, Devialet sounds great with Vivid, it's utterly different kind od sound. Vivid speakers are real proof that high-end can be also entertaining as well Smile

Now, I just close my eyes and really enjoy music as I do on live venues, just listening music. I try not to think about getting sound even better.

Before B1d, as I mentioned, I had Avalon Indra which was also great - very resolute and natural sounding speaker (best for classical music and jazz, but also fantastic for electronic/synthetic music with tunefull bass that you could easily follow, good slam etc... But sometimes and for some music didn't make favour, sometimes it lacked fun factor.

I say sometimes because many times it was also blessing for my ears. Strange this hobby it is for sure Smile

I have heard every vivid in existence barring the B1 Decade ... would love your impressions
i too think the Devialet and the vivids are a very good match ..
I run DIRAC into my Devialet .. try it..I think there is a free trial
Correct for bass from 150 hz down only
Will sort you out big time
OR downloaad Jriver --trial or pay $49 , it has a dsp studio section where you can fiddle with parametric eq in the digital domainĀ
Get a mic like the Umik-1 from miniDsP $80.. get REW (free) and do a bit of measuring and apply the PEQ

Your bass issues are room nodes.. you can move your listening chair or and speakers to be sitting in a neutral area with respect to bass

thats free
Rodney, for me and my room Vivid B1 Decade is ideal speaker and the one I was looking for many years now. This is the sound with "presence" but never fatiguing.

Powered by D400 and supported by Synergistic Research speaker cables and Audience aR-6 TSS passive conditioner, Vivid is quite revealing but never harsh or offensive, on the contrary. For me, this kind of "blackness" quitness is astonishing, music is really coming from a total silence!

Soundstage is layered and free in room.

The only imperfections are those coming from the room imperfections - slightly sibilance and harshness in mid high fr spectre, some echo and bass boom that I'm sure would be solved with spike pads (Finite Element or similar).

To describe the sound quality, I will use just these two atributes: ethereal and effortless.

Right now I'm listening John Abercrombie' "Timeless" and I can not explain peacefullness that's coming from the boxes.

Really nice pic and setup
What always surprises me with Vivids are those little ghosts that pop up in space.. you have a window on the recording without it being analytical..I listen to about 4 hours a day .... every track is a performance , not just music.
