Heya people,

does anyone else experience a significant latency when connecting the Phantom speaker to vinyl? (silver phantoms) I have 2 Phantoms + Dialog. Its connected thru the optical-in (Toslink) on the Dialog then sent wireless to the Phantoms. So, vinyl from dj mixer RCA to ADC to Dialog toslink...

I would say the latency is almost 1 sec, and really annoying...does anyone have a possible solution for this? The only thing i can think of is to hardwire the phantoms to each other and the Dialog, anyone tried this?

Would love all the input i can get, thanks!

/ Vic

Mine is the same - the needle goes down and the thunk comes a second later

Doesn't bother me at all though. Unless you are somehow reading the music as the needle traces the groove there is nothing for it to be in sync with?

I could see why that would be annoying if you're trying to pick out the start of a track that's not at the edge of the record. If it's not possible to play vinyl without latency to the Phantoms then I think I'll shelve my plans to hook up a turntable altogether.
You're trying to DJ arent you.....?
This system wont work for timing critical applications. Sorry, its the nature of the beast.

No, I'd just like the music to come out of the speakers when the needle hits the record. It was possible in the 1930s so it should probably be possible now.
No idea where your 1 sec latency is coming from. A bit of an exaggeration perhaps?
It is well known that the latency on the optical input was originally around 160ms (confirmed to me by Devialet tech support) but was reduced in a recent firmware update to 80ms. Make sure you are on the latest firmware and Spark versions.
They did not have Digital Signal Processing back in the 1930s. Phantom (and others like Kii Three and the new Beolab 90) depend heavily on the use of DSP to do it's 'magic'. When a speaker system is time coherent i.e. when output from bass, mid and treble is aligned, a certain delay is necessary.
My latency is perfect as the TT is not close to my seating.
So by the time I sit down the music starts to play

Well yeah, i might be exaggerating a bit, but not much. The Phantoms are brand new, got them like a week ago...shouldnt the firmware be the latest? If not, how do i check that and do the update? Is it with Spark?

I have installed these in a cocktail bar, they sound and fill up the space great, but playing records (dj) with the latency was really not the easiest thing...
This system is never going to work for a DJ unfortunately. Are you still in your 45 day return period?
