After some discussions with Guillaume, the last of them being this one : http://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?t...2#pid37982  as well as other discussions with French bloggers, some of whom are very supportive of the Trinnov technology, I have decided to give a try to the Trinnov Amethyst, which is a complete mix of technologies for music streaming, room correction, DAC, aso... Here is the link to their web site : http://www.trinnov.com/products/hi-fi/am...lang=en_en

I should receive a test unit in the very next days, and will have a week or so to decide whether to keep it or not.

In the meantime, and to illustrate what these guys are doing, I wanted to share with you a series of training videos aimed at pro-audio specialists, who are their main customers.

Although these videos have a clear marketing goal, I found them quite informative.

My goal with this unit is to compensate for a poor room setting in my installation. Obviously the best correction would have been to dedicate a room for my system, and to make a passive sound correction of the room first, but I cannot imagine myself moving to the house basement to listen to music. So I decided to keep the music installation inside my living environment and bear the consequences buying an active correction system.

I know some of you have tested Dirac software/plugin for the same usage. Obvisouly Dirac is a much cheaper solution and seems to offer great value to its users. A French blogger recently made a comparison between the two technologies there : https://translate.google.com/translate?s...edit-text=

Has anyone an experience to share in this field ?

I will keep you updated when I have the opportunity to evaluate mine...
I have tried many RC packages , from sigtech in the late 90's onwards, however have not tried the trinnov as the price is horrendous and the trinnov unit actually repeats a lot of the devialet functions .. and if you use the trinovs dac with the devialet as an amp .. you go thru an AD
Acourate or DIRAC .. via a miniDSP , done in the digital domain is 1/10th the price and allows the devialet to do all it can.
I will follow your findings with interest

Hi Rodney,

You're perfectly right, there is overlapping. But this overlapping is limited to the DAC/Preamp functions if I'm not mistaken. The rest of the functions are different, especially the room adjustment and the music server functions which are two areas where the Devialet has no functionality.

The fact that I found a second hand system at a reasonable price might alter my judgement as well, but if I decide to keep the system, I will try to make as detailed comparison as possible.

Thanks for your interest anyway.
Well, all you are using the Devialet for is amplification if you use the Trinnov as a pre/phono/dac.
If the trinnov works for you , you might as well ditch the devialet and just use a stereo power amp or monoblocks
It would be an interesting shootout ..DIRAC and Devialet vs Trinnov and power amps

dirac have a new feature , hasnt made it to their offerings yet , but it uses extra speakers to actively bust bass nodes .. called panorama , I use 4 subs and 2 mains .. I would love to see what that does

At any rate , I really only use DRC in the bass.. I find on most systems , full range correction is not the silver bullet
Looking forward to hearing about it too (even though its not on my radar at all) - we all love a good shootout.

Have any more info?

Is this the big delay in reeling their update do we think? I just want it to remember my USB output device, so was wondering why it was taking so long….
Just a short update to share my first impressions.

Beyond the best control of sub-bass, which makes listening to songs like Hey Now from London Grammar or St-Etienne from Bernard Lavillier audible, what strikes me with Trinnov in the chain, is the improvement of the three-dimensional rendering. In 'Bypass' mode (without Trinnov), the sound is projected forward by the speakers. With Trinnov, the sound image seems much deeper, coming from further away.

In terms of DAC used, I made optimization measures with both inputs of Devialet (line input for use of Trinnov's DAC, and AES / EBU input for use of Devialet's DAC). The difference between the two types of calculated parameters is not palpable, so I selected the parameters from the measurement with the Devialet's DAC.

I adjusted the line input as recommended by Devialet with a sampling frequency of 96kHz, to avoid degradation of the signal / noise ratio.

In terms of rendering of the two DACs, the impression I have is that the Devialet's DAC is somewhat more analytical than the Trinnov which seems more 'wrapped-up', more musical would we say  when describing loudspeakers, giving a more pleasant texture in particular to the voices. The colour would be closer to Sonus Faber than to Focal if I can attempt a comparison.

The only thing I have not managed to run is multiple measures in order to help expand the sweet-spot. Perhaps the version 3.8.20 of software. I asked Trinnov for an update (free since the machine has less than a year). We will see.

P.S: I have not played with the settings; just want to listen to music for now Wink
How are you finding the 'network player' aspects of the Amethyst?

Not tested yet. Not planned before early next week Wink

That is actually very sensible, never change more than one thing at a time!
