Hey guys,

I'm about to buy a Devialet Phantom + Dialog but I would like to have more certitude about my (stable?) configuration.

I'll mainly listen my music with Spotify on my iMac, trough AirPlay (to avoid Sparkle, am I right?).

I'm not sure about the setup and have 2 questions :

1)
iMac ------ ethernet ------ Router ------- ethernet -------- AirPort Express ------- optical -------- Dialog

or

iMac ------ ethernet ------ Router ------- ethernet -------- Dialog ------- optical -------- AirPort Expres

2)
Is the connection between Dialog and Airport Expres in optical AND ethernet, or only optical?

Thanks for your help.
You connect your Airport Express via optical to Dialog. Also you can connect Dialog via Ethernet to the same Airport express. Voila, now you can play music using Airplay through Airport Express, or using any standard means through Dialog (it works as a Spotify client or can be controlled via Devialet's Spark app).

Optical connection is required between Dialog and Airport Express only if you want to use Airplay (which, I bet, will appear in the next software update of Dialog itself).

Allright, and do I need Dialog for that?

Why should i connect Dialog with optical and ethernet to Airport Express? Why not only optical, what are the advantages of the ethernet connection?
And is it first Router -> Dialog -> Airport Express or Router -> Airport Express -> Dialog?

With 2 Phantoms or more you'll need Dialog...no need with 1 Phantom

Dialog needs internet.

Allright thanks Yannick.
My main purpose for using Airplay was to avoid Spark. I guess when i'll use Spotify Connect it will bypass Spark?
And what about the sound quality of Spotify Connect? Any difference notable between Spotify connect or AirPlay?
Sound quality through both Airplay and Spotify should be similar - in both cases, you're limited to the 320kbps encoding of Spotify content.

In practice, Spotify Connect has a slight edge in some parts of the UX - volume control is more responsive than Airplay, which lags a little.

I like using Spotify Connect to stream the audio, but the Spark app to control the volume - it's more responsive, and easier to make small adjustments with.

By the way, aptX Bluetooth is very good as well - frankly I don't think I notice a big difference, if at all.
