Hi. I am new to the forum, my first post.  Over the past week, I have read every post about the forum about the Phantoms from day one.  You guys are great.  I am proud being part of this community.

I have on order, coming Friday after next, two gold phantoms and a dialog.  I guess it is crazy since I have never seen or heard any Phantoms.

I hope to not be disappointed.  I have recently sold a $9,500.00 pre-amp and a $50,000.00 set of active speakers.  Some times you just have to make changes in life.  The phantoms will be the least expensive speakers I have purchased in the last 25 years.  I don't expect the same quality, but if I get 80% or better, I will be very happy!

Once again, thanks to everyone for all your advise.

Welcome - I am sure you will not be dissapointed when you get them set up right Smile

It's a great attitude to have - all the benefits of these will surely outweigh the tiny drop? change? in sound quality, as they did for me when I decided what was important to me

Look forward to hearing your feedback!
I hope you purchased the branch stands, I felt the made a great improvement on the sound on my phantoms.

Opps, forgot to list the branch stands.  They are being shipped to me too.  Once set up. I will give a short review.  How long, if any, is the burn-in for the best sound.  My tube pre amp took over 200 hours!
Hey Scubadon,
You are doing what a lot of us are considering!
Please give us a report on how you like them and how they compare after you get the new Golds - we would love to hear your comments,
Bill
Welcome Scubadon,

It sounds as though this will be a big change in you system, both in terms of size and cost. I'm sure you've found the posts by F1eng here; he (among others) has written some excellent posts about the sound quality of the Phantoms as well as made some useful comparisons. I doubt you will be disappointed. Frank rated his Goldmund etc system as a 10, and his silver phantoms as a 9. That's way up there, I think.

I don't recall a discussion about burn-n for the Phantoms. And of course, some believe it to be real and others do not. But I am confident that my D120 became better after about 50 or 60 hours; almost as though a slight metallic sheen on the high end went away. I did not notice any change in mids or treble otherwise. I suspect that placement is important with the Phantoms, if only because they produce such capable bass.
Well crap!! Delivery is delayed a week. Just imagine, 2 weeks without a stereo and now it will be 3 weeks. I am really looking forward getting and hearing them. I will post a review as soon as I can.

I feel for you. I don't have to imagine; it took me a month to buy my Original d' Atelier and it arrived on the day I landed in the Australian desert for a four week hitch on a drilling rig.  Sad

That sucks!!!!

When I got my Phantom it was damaged in transport  Dodgy so it had to go back to the shop, waiting for a new one now and hopefully it will arrive soon. Also ordered a white Tree stand but that seems to not be available yet in any shops.
Got the 2 golds today and set them up. Streaming tidal to test the sound because I have not decided how I want to stream my NAS. My last speakers were Pass Labs Rushmores (50,000) with Modwright 36.5 2 piece pre amp ($9,500). The two golds, dialog box and stands cost less than just the pre amp. So, I had reasonable expectations for my new Phantoms.

Fired them up and WOW. These things are incredible! In some ways, especially in the low end, they are better the Rushmores. In other ways, as expected, they are not as articulate as the big speakers. They are more "fun" to listen to. Speaker placement and listening position are not nearly as critical as the Rushmores. At 50 lbs with the stands verses 275 lbs, they are also much easier to move around. They are certainly loud enough. The single best way to describe these Phantoms is "involving".

I think I will be able to spend more time listening to music instead of worrying about cables, racks, components, tubes, etc etc.

I feel I will be very happy with this system. My wife has been very patient with me over the last 36 years. She gave me two thumbs up on these. That is a good thing!

Thanks to everyone for all the posts with great advise. I hope to contribute to this great community in the future. I will also add a better evaluation once I have had a little more time with these great speakers.
