I'm very surprised. Around 6 months ago I changed from Silver Phantoms to Gold Phantoms. I found the Gold Phantoms superior in most aspects, definitely in SQ. This could even be detected and confirmed by family members and friends in blinded listening comparisons in my listening space, also from non-audiophile. But one thing was worse: there was a constant buzz (measured as 15 dB peak at arund 1kHz) on one of the Golds audible at 5m. The other Gold had a constant buzz audible at 50cm. Both more than my 3 Silver Phantoms. This hum/buzz comes from the switched power supply. So I was determined to send them back to Devialet, specifically the one that has audible PSU noise at 5m distance.
But today, there is no audible noise coming from both of them and they are nicely warm, so not turned off. Did Devialet fix this with the latest FW apdate? Can anyone of you Gold owners confirm? A brief measurement of the ambient noise confirms, no switched PSU noise anymore.
And, yes I can listen to music with them. This is an amazing update or has it todo with my power network that got cleaner and does not interfere with the Phantoms, but did before?
Let me know your findings.
Yes streamy, I agree with you totally. The buzzing has totally gone and the temperature of the Phantoms has increased slightly. Whether this will impact on reliability and power consumption we will have to wait and see, but for the time being I am happy to have no buzz    Smile

It is always buzzing. At least mine two does.

And you are on fw 1.13.0.34?
Both of mine are now silent after the update having buzzed before, maybe they've increased the power to the PSU. Temperature has gone up though.
Don't worry about turning them on and off, mine have still remained silent.
Thanks Tonyo156.
I also feel that they might be a bit hotter. At least my Silver Phantom is a bit cooler. I will do some power consumption measurement and see how much they consume more.
I think you are right, I haven't thought about it since the update really, so I'll have to check when I get back home. It feel like I have not been annoyed by that the last couple of days however so most probably it's fixed ^^

I have check a bit more about heat and power consumption. In fact the Silver Phantom consumes in standby 24.1 Watts constantly at 230V power line, and I have the first version without BT module. The Gold Phantom consumes 21.9 Watts and fluctuates down to 21.2 Watts every few seconds, with BT module on. Both are
connected to the Dialog using PLC. So the Gold Phantom should be cooler. y assumption is that the heat transfer to the cooler grill is more efficient and therefore heat dissipation on the rest of the surface is less. So, the grill feels hotter, whereas less overall heat is produced in the Golds in standby. This also makes sense as the thermal design needs to be able to handle 4500W peak power compared to 3000W peak in the Silver Phantom.
I have always been curious what's the power consumption at 100% volume. I have some portable inverter lithium batteries for my photography flashes and I have been wondering for how long I could power my Gold Phantom with. I wasn't sure if I would damage the phantom or the batteries so I only made a quick test at 50% volume for about 30 seconds and everything was fine. Anybody got any technical knowledge that could help me out?
Indeed the buzz went down on both my golds, one is audible from about 10cm and the other from 2cm. So, very nice ^^
