My apologies up front, I know this is a much more sophisticated crowd than the typical audiophile board, but most of this computer audio is over my head. I suspect it may be true for a lot of other lurkers out there as well - but I would like to learn. I’m just an old (58) fart with failing high frequency response curves from years of live concert level listening (both at home and at stadiums) who cut his teeth on Discwashers and vinyl back before it was popular (why in god’s name would anyone want to add back IN those pops and crackles to pristine digital tracks is beyond me!). I digress.

I’ve followed audio over the years, but as it evolved digitally (which I grasped as an early CD adopter), I have failed to keep up with all the software/hardware/IT department stuff. Life got busy.

The concept of an active speaker with built in digital crossover/DSP/amplification matched to end driver always seemed to me to be the obvious solution to not only simplify, but optimize performance. I have owned a pair of original Meridian DSP5000’s for more than a decade (which sadly are used now only as a really solid pair of speaker stands - mostly cuz I haven’t bothered to figure out how to stream to them inexpensively and simply). Again I digress.

Anyway, my point (finally!) is that I’m 15 days into my 45 day trial of a pair of Elevates/Trees/Dialogue and past the initial infatuation stage and now into the can I make this work long term stage... I enjoyed the bass theatrics at first, but bottom line is that they’re gonna need EQ (even better, some room correction) for me to keep em.

My searches here are conflicting/confusing, so I’m looking for a simple explanation from anyone who would care lead what I suspect is a sizeable number of lurkers (dummies) to a SIMPLE way to equalize our Phantoms. Ideally it would keep the form factor as is (no more wires/dongles/etc although I’d accept an additional device or two attached to the Dialogue and hidden).

The other condition is it be confined to iOS device sources. All I want is to be able to stream Tidal/Apple Music/Spotify from my iPads or iPhones to my Dialogue/Phantoms. And EQ/Room Correct the sound. Period. I may play some downloaded files off my iOS devices, but I’ve found the Tidal/Apple resolution completely adequate (although I do enjoy MQA on my Bluesound stuff - but again, I digress). Streaming I’ve found to be my personal holy grail. I’m pretty much past the fiddling/obsessing/tinkering of our hobby. For now. ?

Anyone care to help us dummies with this? Baby steps...

Thanks in advance. Great resource and some really knowledgeable people here...

Hi from what I know for room correction you will need to end up streaming to a device which then connects to the phantom or dialogue via optical

For example - iphone to airport express via airplay - then out via optical into something like DSPEAKER ANTIMODE 2.0 (great for room correction and EQ on the fly) - then out via optical into a phantom

However for just turning the bass down a bit you could use the Tidal or Spotify Apps - and reduce the bass via their inbuilt EQ - then airplay to phantom. (Spotify connect won't send the EQd sound I don't think, hence needing airplay)

And finally - night mode is pretty good for really turning down the lows and not affecting much else. I would guess a fairly steep curve from 200hz. I use it when I watch loud TV as I don't want boomy bass annoying the neighbours

Hopefully they will one day add more eq options into spark but they have been saying it for years so I am not holding my breath

Hope my pennies worth helps Smile

Hmmm, was not aware that Tidal had that option as it’s stripped out by Spark and BluOS... worth a try.

I have an Airport Express in transit already as I got as far in my research as realizing it may be necessary (as well as improving Airplay stability? - I’ve been frustrated by Airplay dropping the right channel). It is the intervening “box and/or software” between Airport and Dialogue to do room EQ that has me befuddled... I’ll check into your suggestion. Thx!
If you are using bluesound it has simple EQ controls otherwise DS speaker antibody will work a lot on sale now as a newer version is out

Yeah as long as you use the Tidal App itself (not tidal within Spark) - then airplay to the phantoms then it keeps the EQ filters chosen in Tidal app settings

I used to have an airport express for stability in the early days of 1st gen Silvers - but I took it out a year or so ago and I think stability hasn't improved lots since then as I don't need it now, even connected via PLC on different circuits I never get drop outs
Actually - I think I made a mistake and tidal eq is only available via desktop

Spotify IOS app definitely has EQ - and as long as you use airplay not Spotify connect it should send it to them phantoms

Suddenly I am not so sure Smile

When I'm in my office and I'm having issues with Spark, I connect my macbook pro via bluetooth to my white phantoms.  On the Mac, I have installed Hear.  Hear allows me EQ the sound coming out of the phantoms.  It works really well, but is a little inconvenient since I need to be on the Mac to control the music source...
