@mak972 thanks for quoting from Reddit. I didn't read the whole piece thoroughly so his 'audiophile statement' escaped me!

I begin to understand why the 'audiophile' is looked down upon. If this kind of talk is widespread in audio forums it is understandable that people with deep knowledge react. One is not an audiophile just because one happens to play music and spend lots of money and time on it.
Who cares what formats it supports. The point of that whole article is the raw performance data of the unit. As it stands that data depicts one thing.

There is a lot of common sense in the Reddit article so my comments are mainly directed at the '100% Audiophile' statement. I have seen comments on other forums that describe the sound of HomePod in more understandable language. These reports are quite good. As I said, HomePod as a zone unit (in Roon for example) in a kitchen or maybe a sleeping room will be fine. Better than a similar Sonos or Bose. As main speakers in a stereo high end system? No way.. Phantoms on the other hand, can do that.
How about the source? Curious to hear someone compare Apple Music on two HomePods vs. Tidal hifi on two Phantoms. And then alternate between Apple Music and Tidal hifi on just the Phantoms and compare again.
As much as I’d read a comparison on the two systems there’s basically no point in comparing those HomePods to Phantom. Completely different realm altogether.

I got a homepod and one thing it's been very useful for is setting the volume of the Phantoms.

"Hey Siri, set phantom to 50"

Sets volume to 50 almost instantly - less than a second. And one doesn't even have to shout over the Phantoms if they are playing loudly.

Almost 3 times the price of the Devialet Remote - but much much better at the job!

Details of the setup are in this thread - https://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=4722
As @ogs is upset by the use of the term 'audiophile' in the Reddit article, I hereby offer a review by a self proclaimed audiophile. Enjoy!

It's not an audiophile product by any means because it's always compared to non audiophile gear.

More audiophile praise for the HomePod as professional tests confirm Apple’s claims

Thanks @Confused good to see what an audiophile says about HomePod.
I can now carefully start to evaluate my own decision on "he used to be an audiophile". Maybe change that into "possibly become an audiophile again.."
