A search of devialetchat indicates you try this more appropriate thread.

I was just about to commit to Roon lifetime too, but I still have two months of trial to go so i will see how it goes. It had been more or less flawless until this night. I really want Roon as I love the interface , the way Roon and Tidal work together is great.

Since I moved away from Devialet, AIR and Windows PC to a NUC with Roon ROCK and use SOtM sMS-200ultra as an endpoint to my TAD cd/dac I have had zero problems with my streaming.

Before Roon I used some upnp software but I think there is not much out there that can compete with Roon/Tidal integration and how Roon works. Have not regreted going lifetime.
Well I have committed to Roon Lifetime this morning as I could not go back to using anything else now.

Big thumbs up!

Hi

See my comments on dCS vs Roon on https://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=3979&page=7

My view (still) is that the dCS Network bridge is superior to all other forms of streaming I have tried. Linking Roon (Mac) through dCS is very good but not as good as dCS on its own - I think the degradation is the insertion of the Mac in the chain - keep it simple!

The balance is between the brilliance of Roon as a library management tool vs. the superior sonics of the dCS (with crappy dCS app - I use mConnect which is fine for me).

Hard choice.

Hope that is helpful.

AES vs spdif (XLR vs RCA) is not as straightforward as you might think - no clear winner for me - just subtle spacial and focus differences.

Good man!  I'm sure you'll be very happy with that decision.

Hi cereal killer,

it looks like you have a pretty simple system, that´s exactly my go: simple system and the laptop away.
Could you tell me how it works and what kind of NAS do you have? I´m usiing Tidal/roon/air via a mac laptop and a iPad as remote but i´d like to drop the laptop and get some storage capacity too. The Womaz solution (Innuos) could be an alternative but i´m not so sure about it yet.
Thanks.

Hi - yes no worries. It’s a really neat simple setup. NAS spec is:
QNAP TS-251+ with 1x8GB Samsung RAM module
2x 1TB sandisk Ultra II SSDs
RoonServer is available from the QNAP ap store.

The NAS and 220 Pro are both hardwired via CAT 7 Ethernet cables to a TP-Link VR900 router.

Everything was virtually plug and play once assembled.
In the QNAP OS I have fixed the IP address for the server then mapped the drive on my laptop.
When I want to add new music I copy it to the NAS via WiFi as it’s all gigabit or A/C rated.
Roon then automatically catalogues and displays new music, laptop can be put away again.

Huummmmm... that´s probably my solution, CK.
If you don´t mind, i´ve just more a couple of questions:
Have you the NAS in the system same room? What about the fan noise and if not, can i connect to another room using my houde network (not all CAT 7, for sure...) without SQ loss. Finally, that NAS model is pretty current in your opinion, and the one to buy considering the target.
Thanks a lot.

Yes thats cool, happy to help Smile

NAS and router sit about 30-50cm away from the 220 pro.
The amps in the left hand side of a 130cm wide media unit, the NAS and router are in the right hand side with the router to the right of the NAS. TV on top of the unit with optical out into the amp.
I have a 1m Postta (flat) CAT 7 cable between amp and router and 0.5m Postta (flat) CAT 7 cable between the NAS and router........ plus a 1.5m (standard) CAT6 cable from router to TV.
Even though having a fan the NAS is completely silent from about 10cm away, once fully booted up and the 'smart fan' which runs at about 1000rpm comes online..... The SSDs are obviously silent Wink

IMHO a powerful NAS with 8GB of RAM, 2x 1TB SSDs and a Quad Core Intel processor running at speeds of upto 2.4Ghz deserves a fan just incase somethings plays up.

I'm completely convinced, CK.
It seems i can put the laptop away and use the iPad as remote, controlling roon, and that´s the place where i pretend to be.
Why do you have a eth cable between the router and tv? Mine is connected to the box by an hdmi cable.
