Hello,

I just see that upgrade is available again through my devialet account. In registered product, there is a new button "upgrade" for registered product that can be upgraded.
For D120 to upgrade to 140 pro, it cost 2990€ without pre out, you have to add 390€ for the pre out.
For D120 to upgrade to 220 pro, it cost now 4490€! They can also change the chassis and the remote for 2500€ more...
Did they also started selling the 250 Pro again?
I thought at certain point they stopped selling it but it seems it is back on as available product...
Or I am wrong?

There will be some squeals of outrage as well as delight, but personally, I think this is great. The upgrade to the 220 is more than it was last year, which will prompt outrage, and the path to the 140 is quite a bit less than last years 220 upgrade, so happy noises with this option. Not bad at all from my perspective; it keeps the value up for the D120 by opening up a less painful path to staying current with the new hardware. Sure, I'm easily impressed, but I think this deserves a nod of appreciation.
The math does not add up. At full retail the 140 Pro is $6490 USD. A 120 in mint condition should fetch around $3000. So for about $3500 one could "upgrade" by selling their 120 and purchasing a 140 Pro outright and save about $500! Even with 9% tax you still end up about breaking even by selling to upgrade. And most people seem to value a stock item over an upgraded item when it comes to resell time. Ugh.
Here's the offer for reference...

Upgrade your Expert to Expert Pro with Core Infinity
Enjoy the enhanced sonic performance of Expert Pro and the new functionality of Core Infinity.

SELECT EXPERT(S) YOU WISH TO UPGRADE:

EXPERT 110/120 UPGRADE TO EXPERT 140 PRO WITH CORE INFINITY
$3,990

EXPERT 110/120 UPGRADE TO EXPERT 220 PRO WITH CORE INFINITY
$5,990
For someone with a D110/120, this seems like a great deal to get to the D140 Pro and now have the ability to go dual mono beyond that which was not possible before.

But if you can sell your D120 for $3k, then buying a new D140 Pro or D220 Pro is probably a better path. I was able to do that first time around by selling my D200 and buying a new 220 Pro. But by the time I did sell my D200, I had to accept less than I planned and just barely broke even. I suspect the resale value of pre-Pro Experts to be less than you'd hope for these days.
Agreed. However, in my case, I would be banking on preferred pricing, not retail and no tax. My example above was more or less a worse case scenario. I suspect the upgrade will not suit most people given these options. That said, it does give every 120 on the planet an opportunity to become something more than just an, eventual, paperweight and that is good news.
Guys, even the oldest Devialet amplifiers, upgraded or not, still work and sound pretty good. It will never be a paperweight — which is the same case as with most amplifiers in the market that cannot be upgraded in any way.

Just my trying to get this in perspective...

Cheers!

Yep, LBameule, you are absolutely correct, however, the consumer market being what it is, the latest spec will always be the driver, both for the seller and the buyer. Buying into a very acceptable but not upgraded version will likely see a dive in second hand price ask/pay.

I happily feel a little conceited that I upgraded my 120 to 220 Pro (and then C/I) reacting to all the Devialet prompts as they were published. Looking at the latest published upgrade options and associated prices, doing it at the time as originally advertised has for me, been the most affective and affordable course to follow.

This especially as it gave me a most attractive item to offer for sale secondhand. I sold it with little advertising hassle for a nice price, or at least one acceptable to me and the buyer. Likelihood is, without the upgrades in place, this sale would never have happened. The sale allowed me to move on and purchase a 250 Pro C/I in replacement which has completely satisfied my ears. What’s not to like?

Yes and No.  There should be no diminished usage, as you say, but there will be unavoidable diminished value (worth) as time goes on.  Need some proof?  Look at the D-Premier, its barely worth a tiny fraction of what it once was (a paperweight).  People that originally owned them are practically giving them away on the resale market.

Having the option to upgrade potentially injects more life and value back into the product which is a good thing.  In my case, it just doesn't seem cost effective to do it the way Devialet has prescribed.
