Hi sorry if it’s been covered elsewhere - but what would boxes / apps would I need to achieve room correction / EQ using Tidal over AirPlay from my iPhone?

I am sure it could be done using a MAC with some room correction software between Tidal and the Phantoms via Optical cable?

But I don’t want to use a laptop.

Is there not some room correction software for iOS that would then allow me to use tidal as a source before outputting the corrected sound via airplay to the phantoms?

Even if I had to buy an extra box I wouldn’t mind. The only RC I managed was with a non iPhone source (turntable into dspeaker anti-mode into phantom via optical)

But now I only stream Tidal - there must be a way!!

Thanks Smile
Jamie
Roon is capable of doing what you want but you have to use the Roon app to play your Tidal music so if you don't like the Roon interface that may be a problem.
I have used Spark without worry so doubt that will be an issue Smile

Will look into it thanks - but I have the feeling I will need a laptop to do the measurements / filters?

EDIT - looks very fancy but $120 a year for the pleasure is far too rich for me - all I would use it for is the EQ I don’t care about all the music library information and extra data they seem to sell it on

Shame....thought we were onto something Sad
What about airplay to airport express then optical into dspeaker antimode room correction device - then optical output into phantom??

Would that work?? Smile
Before using Roon and an RPi3 into Phantom optical input, which I can fully recommend but acknowledge that it is a bit heavy on the pocket, I was using an Raspberry Pi with MoOde server. However, I’m not sure if it supports Tidal. In addition to MoOde I installed brutfir on the Rpi and could use room correction filters or any eq filters together with MoOde. But there is quite some configuration and batch file generation with some linux knowledge necessary. Not sure if I could again set it up after being spoilt with Roon.
Alas - raspberry pi means nothing but a tasty snack to me. Zero technical skills Smile

I think my idea will work - so unless I find out about a way to do it with less boxes I will probably go with it Smile
Room Correction sadly does benefit from some technical skills - and by that I mean more reading and experimentation...

Plenty of people could help you setup a pi - again it’s mostly reading and following guides, a doddle - but not sure it would do what you need.

I thought a mini DSP might do it but not sure they do optical out.

Roon is very versatile and DSP and multi room turned out to be the best features for me. You can add many endpoints to it, and I’m certain a few pi ones have optical out. But yeah, the subscription is a lot for just that.

The bigger question is why a company that invented products based around DSP don’t add at least simple correction ability, but let’s not go down that road....
To me, the single greatest weakness of the Phantom ecosystem is the lack of room correction.

We also run Sonos and the automatic room correction, while probably not as precise as more complicated processes, makes an amazing difference in many rooms with a sub five minute process. It really makes the Sonos much more a legitimate musical solution, especially if one adds the subwoofer to take the bass load off those small drivers.

If Phantom incoroporate something like that to the Reactor, it should be a world beater at that size and cost.
I only want simple - the dspeaker is great for that! Just press a button to analyse - then choose to include the correction or not. I seem to remember it’s quite easy to choose the bass range to start at, and also to have it heavily or lightly corrected.

I think there are some more complicated options that I might investigate this time around - but I fear it would drive me mad listening out for improvements Smile

The phantoms got me out the hifi worrying game - I don’t want to replace with EQ worrying!

Totally agree the lack of Phantom EQ is a pain - needing 2 extra little boxes in my case is a bit of a pain. They told me it was coming soon some years ago
I’m thinking about getting a HifiBerry DAC+ DSP and using REW: https://www.hifiberry.com/blog/announcing-the-dac-dsp/
