Help setting up D400

On Saturday, I was helping a friend setup a D400 he has mounted on his wall.  The D's are spaced about 10 feet apart.  I had a spare digital to AES cable of 5 meters in length for a project of my own that I was not using to connect the two units together.  We do expect to shorten the cable as it was to long for even the project I had in mind for it.

Its a quality made DH Labs D-110 cable and but seem's to only work intermittently.

Question:

1) does the D200 work with digital to AES connector or does it need digital to digital?
2) what might be the maximum length we should be setting this cable to?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Jim
In general the D400 does work with an RCA to XLR/AES cable. However if the cable is too long you might have problems, especially at higher sample rates. There are a few other threads in the forum touching on this topic.
Thanks thumb5 - I've not been successful in finding discussions on length. That's probably due to the way I'm searching.

Thanks thumb5

the DH Labs 1 meter digital -> AES works great.  The 5 meter not.  We will try shortening to 3 meter and see if that works.  If not possibly we can look at getting the transformer ordered.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses (again)
