Hi

On reason for me not to upgrade to DOS 2 is that most casual music listening in my family is radio playback. The first one in the family that gets up starts Sparks and plays the radio and everybody in the family can change stations etc. The playback doe not depend on the device that initiated the listening. This depends on the dialog box that somehow plays the internet radio streams.

With DOS 2 the Dialog box is no longer needed and as I understood it so far you can only stream directly from your app. This means, no radio and if you use a radio app and stream using Airplay, the radio only works when the phone playing the stream is in the room. Does not work.

So, what product do I need to have an internet radio streamer? I don't want to attach a box with a cable to the Phantom though. I mean, one reason to have phantoms is to not have the cable mess. I am not going to add a cable just for a stupid radio.

I need something that replicates the old radio feature of dialog. I guess something that can do UPnP output or something. I just did not find any internet radio streaming product that explicitly states such a setup. It seems all streamer products act as a stream receiver and like to be attached to an amplifier of some sort. But I need a UPnP or Airplay stream output.

Can anyone point me to a device that can do this? I need:
- A device that can stream internet radio URL's to the Phantoms
- Simple iOS app to switch radio stations and control volume of that device
- A physical remote to witch stations would be a bonus

Any ideas? Thanks!
Have you tried TuneIn which uses Airplay?

Thanks for the link, but I don't see how this would help solving my problem. I don't want an app on the phone but rather a device that controls the Phantom so that the music playback does not depend on the device that initiated the playback.
A bit expensive for just radio - but take a look at Roon - www.roonlabs.com

It would let anyone in the family control output

And with the devialet app on indivdual devices, the volume could be controlled too.
As long as you are a happy camper on DOS1 no need to change. Up to now it looks like there is no additional feature in DOS, only features missing. With DOS1 working over PLC there is less network traffic on your LAN and WLAN. Your other devices are only used to control but not to stream except for local files. Of course this only applies to those that do not have problems with DOS1. For all others it looks like they get a more stable system and those with the Classic Phantoms, they get more peak power, which can have an important positive effect on SQ.
Hi gelasma

There has been some discussion about this at https://devialetchat.com/Thread-Radio where there is a mention of a UPNP ANDROID based radio app that looks as though it doesn't need a media server but I haven't used this as I have an iphone. Some more information here too: https://devialetchat.com/Thread-Silvers-...eds-advice

In my case I use a cheap windows 10 pc as a server running MinimServer as my UPNP server and MConnect on the iphone to select the radio stations. It took a bit of setting up but the support from the MinimServer forums was very helpful and it works without the need to have the phone always in range as required with airplay.

I went to DOS2 because I have Classic Phantoms which benefited from a sound upgrade, and I already had a server running Plex for video use so there wasn't much extra expense involved - just a small contribution to MinimServer development and the cost for the paid version of the mconnect app.

It works well for Radio but I would still consider DOS1 to be better for radio listening.

What is the difference between having a dedicated device and a dedicated low end tablet? Or add a PC? You will need a device in one form or another that has Internet connection to access internet Radio.

Otherwise, remain on DOS1..

Your right, I have thought about having a dedicated tabled just for that, that would work. It's just that I find the current situation that every family member can control the music from their phone very good, so I decided for me that the dedicated tablet option is not the solution I am looking for.

Thanks, this is what I am looking for. Bit expensive, as you said for my use case, but technically the solution I want. I am a bit disturbed about the subscription model, I just want a little server and not a subscription ;-)

Does anyone know if I can stream to the Phantoms with https://volumio.org? My problem is that all devices that I see with UPnP only seem to support receiving of streams, but not sending them to a network speaker.

Thanks a lot for the links, great resources!

In the end I might just stick to DOS1. I hoped to ged rid of the ugly Spark interface...
