Highly recommend to try if you have decent cans

Agreed, I picked up some bits from Maplin, plugged in,  and had the best headphone experience since buying them.  Now my Graham Slee headphone amp is redundant.  Selling that will help fund a wall bracket for the D! Smile

Which cable do you use to connect the headphone to Devialet? I do not want to buy poor quality 3.5mm to RCA cable..

I don't use the adapters any more. If you PM me your address, I'll send them to you if you want. All you will need is a pair of RCA cables.

It's taken me nearly 10 years to get around to trying this.

Pre-out, dual RCA to 3.5mm jack, headphones with 300ohm nominal impedance.

Got to admit I'm blown away with the sound. I have the top Graham Slee amp, which I've admired for many years and is really no slouch, but the Expert pre-outs driving the headphones direct (instead of driving the Slee) leaves it a long way behind for clarity, punch, and holography.

It's not really supposed to be this good, is it? The pre-outs drive headphones as kind of a secondary alternative function, and are connected "only" to the auxiliary DAC, not the "special" ADH which drives the speaker terminals.

Bemused.
