Things are not going well here in the UK.....  bar humbug...

We now have the new super contagious coronavirus variant, the ports are shut, and I see the wags on the 'net have now renamed Great Britain "Plague Island".

From a personal perspective, things are not great where I am living, which is on the edge of a new UK "Tier 4" area, which is basically a full lockdown.  Most plans for Christmas are now cancelled.

But I am safe and well and the prospect of a vaccine offers hope for the new year.

Anyway, something occurred to me.  The Devialet Chat logo switched to it's seasonal form a week or so ago.  In "normal" years this tends to be the catalyst for the forum to fill up with seasonal goodwill messages.  Not so this year (so far), hence this thread.

I hereby propose a not too serious Internet Radio suggestion poll and seasonal goodwill thread.

No rules or winners, just post any message of seasonal goodwill you want (does not need to be Christian, other religions or pagan celebrations of the winter solstice are equally acceptable here), and optionally post a suggestion of an internet radio station you enjoy.  If you just want to suggest a radio station, that's fine, if you just want to post a seasonal message, that's fine too.

I personally pledge to listen to all and any of the radio stations suggested.  To be honest, all my Christmas plans are cancelled, I have a bit of time off work, so why not?  Plus, if we do get a radio station that is recommended enough to top the poll, maybe we could all spend an hour or so listening, just as something new to try.

And as it happens, my current favorite internet radio station is BBC 6 Music.  I have a horrible feeling that being from the BBC, 6 Music is not available for export from Plague Island, much like everything else at the moment.  I suspect many of you would not like it either, a bit like our funny warm beer.

Whatever is happening where you may be, I wish you and those you love good health and happiness, and all the very best for the new year, let's hope it's a better one than 2020.  (although I hear that a massive asteroid is approaching earth)

Stay safe and enjoy what you can - even if it is being stuck at home listening to beautiful music thanks to your Devialet.  Lockdown has some benefits....
Bravo @Confused

This is a very nice idea for a thread, and I feel this community is perfect for some sharing of ideas and feelings and internet radio.

Here on the west coast of Canada, we are in a bit of a holding pattern on the virus and lockdown rules: stay home as much as possible, masks required at all indoor spaces (NIC your own house, and Christmas gatherings are within your own house only). People here are generally very good about following the rules, so our new case counts are high, but stable or on a gentle decline.

Except for the social and travel constraints, I consider us to be very lucky. We have heat and hot water, flush toilets, and plenty of excellent food, wine and beer. And I don't have to go to work. So, all things considered, Best Pandemic Ever!

I miss playing music, but having an excellent music system is something I appreciate even more now. We're going through our CD selection again, which is nice to have time to do, and (on topic, finally) internet radio is something we really appreciate. A few of our favourites are Ancient FM, Audiophile Baroque, Global Chillout by World Fusion, and KEXP, which also has some excellent video concerts; they do the Tiny Desk Concerts. Our favourite station remains OFF Radio, from Greece. This is generally down tempo, and often cover versions, but very creatively done. We also listen to the Italian RAI stations to pretend we're keeping up our limited Italian.

I have found BBC 6 Music on TuneIn Radio, so I will give that a go, and look for some English beer to sip as well. Recommendations welcome!

Now that we have passed the darkest day of the year (in the northern hemisphere) I hope we all can hold on and get through to lighter, brighter and happier days ahead. I'm just reminded now that, through music in various forms and media, I've met some wonderful people. People I've dealt with buying or selling equipment, playing music, and here on Devialet Chat as well. So many members have helped me with advice and guidance over the years. I'll take this moment to say 'thanks' to all of you, and to add my wish for good health and happiness to all for 2021 and beyond.
I too have (re)discovered a love of radio during lockdown. I am also a fan of BBC 6Music, in particular Guy Garvey’s show on a Sunday, and bought many albums on the back of his songs (he introduced me to the world of TalkTalk). I am also enjoying Radio Paradise. Happy holidays.
Radio Paradice get my vote.......its superb
+1 for Radio Paradise. Both great music and great sound quality (lossless).
Greetings from Plague Island!

My most listened to stations are: JB Radio and Radio Paradise Rock Mix.

Merry Christmas and a happy, peaceful, prosperous and Covid free 2021 to all on Devialet Chat.
I'll be honest, there have been fewer posts in this thread than I expected. Maybe seasonal cheer is in short supply in these troubled times?

But not to despair! Thanks in no small part to Damon posting very many suggestions, we now have a reasonable list of recommended internet radio stations. We also have an early contender for the "UDC Christmas No. 1 radio station". Radio Paradise storms into a massive lead with 3 mentions. Much to my surprise, BBC 6 music is also a very strong contender having received fully 2 mentions, snapping at the heals of leader Radio Paradise.

BBC 6 Music (Check out Guy Garvey’s show on a Sunday) - 2 votes
Ancient FM
Audiophile Baroque
Global Chillout
World Fusion
KEXP (including the magnificent Tiny Desk concerts)
OFF Radio (Greek)
Italian RAI stations (Also excellent for learning a second language, unless Italian is your native language)
Radio Paradise (check out the rock mix) - 3 votes
JB Radio

I pledged in the OP that I would listen to all of the recommendations here, and I will, there is already enough listed to keep me going for a while, and unless anything changes in the recommendations, I shall have Radio Paradise playing loudly and proudly tomorrow morning as I peel some spouts and work out how to cook a Turkey. It should at least make a change from listening to the dulcet tones of Noddy Holder and Shane MacGowan.
Another one for Radio Paradise here. I like and use it so much, I pay a monthly subscription.

Compliments of the Season to all.
Seasons greetings to all Devialet Chat member who are celebrating, I hope it’s as good as it can be.

Radio paradise for me too, with the occasional dip into Planet Rock.

Didn’t know about the lossless feature until you mentioned it, tried it now and wow, superb! Thanks for the heads up.
