Hy Guys,

The more I read you, the more I want a D200....

Always the same story, I need WAF speakers in the 36m2 living room and I don't want to compromise too much about sound quality.

Before trying to listen a combo (may be hard as some dealers don't want to hear about Devialet....) I started to select some speakers, and I must admit that the Dynaudio Focus 160 (SAM ready) could be really what I'm looking for.

My question is for a 9.000€ budget:
  *  Is it worth to go for a D200 (the Focus 160 are 85db...) and spend 7.000€ for 2.000€ speakers, will it make a difference (any bass improvment, improvment for low level listening...) with the D120/GT1 system ?
  *  Or should I go for a D120 with 5.000€ speakers (B&W 805d, SF Olympica I ....) ?

I'm french... I'm lost Wink

Regards
My suggestion would be to go for the 120 with a pair of reasonably sensitive (90dB) speakers. Companies that make elegant floorstanding speakers with fairly high efficiency include Audiovector, Elac, Martin Logan (Motion series).

Good luck!

Matt
I am going through the same doubts, and believe I will end up with 120 and Focal 1028 BE.
200 looks better on the paper, but personally cannot justify the price difference. More so as the difference would most likely be inaudible.
I only plan on using it with TV via digital input, and FLAC music via USB. I don't see any analog input except a phono which 120 has. The only thing missing could be a lack of output for headphones, but that's not a deal breaker.

Add Living Voice to that list.

Thanks for the list !
The audiovector SR1 Arrete are 87.5db apparently, for a 50/50 budget if a D120 can drive them properly.

I really would like to have SAM ready speakers....
I also would like to have feedbacks of a D120 user with the Focus 160...

If you're looking at the Focus, then you might want to have a think about the Focus 200 XD and no Devialet. I don't know if that works out with what you want to connect up to it but it could well be worth it. If you want to go for the Focus 160's, get a D200. My C1's are about the same sensitivity and they really like the juice as all Dynaudios do.

Good luck,

Pim

I heared the Dynaudio 600XD (the topmodel of the active Dynaudio's) on a audioshow last week. They were very disappointing. The sound was a bit 'digital' to me, the lows were overpresented and had a tendancy to stick to the LSs and they lacked focus and control. No shadow of a good sounding system.

I can state that Dynaudio loudspeakers can sound very well with Devialet. I agree with Pim that they do need the juice.
Do you think it's consistent to invest 7000€ in a D200 to drive 2000€ speakers (i.e. Focus 160) ?
By the way, I just saw combo with Atohm GT1 Special Edition, 7000€ with D120, 9000€ with D200....

Well, the Devialet Expert line is more than just an Amp. It's an excellent DAC and has a terrific Phono stage. All in all I think you shouldn't focus too much on what a set of speakers costs, but whether or not you think it's a good match with the Devialet.
Loudspeakers have more influence on the sound quality than any other part of the system and also they determine the interaction with your room. So it is more important to find the right loudspeakers for your listening environment and than decide which amp version you want to buy.
